The highly improved Capitol nine came through the
past two weeks with 2 wins & 3 losses, putting their
season record at 2 —4 overall. Actually, they were only
out of one game, that was the 14—0 bombing by Delaware
Campus, after the local lads took the opener of the
doubleheader 11 —5 (should have quit when we were
ahead!). Hitting standouts for capitol are Allen Hutchins
(2 long home runs thus far this season); Fred Andring,
Rich Stevens, & Larry Stegall. Ed Stish, Fred Andring &
Bob Greenleaf have pitched good ball, but at times get
hurt because of let downs in the defense. Their earnest
earned run averages are very good. Catching duties are
being handled by Randy Hess & Sam Calabro. With the
team well in control under the excellent leadership of
coach Tom McMillen, there is no reason why Capitol
cannot come through this season with a winning record, a
first for a Capitol baseball team. Some bad news for the
team: Tom Gormley broke his hand in the Ogontz game,
and is out for the balance of the season. We wish him a
speedy recovery.

After a slow start, Capitol’s tennis team has gotten
things together to win 3 of their last 4 matches, jumping
their overall record to 3—3. Playing good tennis for the
capitol court team are Scott Bloom, Bob Baginski, Barry
Healy, Tom Coleman, Ken Boulton, Kim Brightbill, and
Don Reich.

The golf team record is much better than the 3 & 6
indicates, because all 6 losses have come to 4 year
institutions with a varsity status golf team. Against two
year schools, we stand 3 & 0. Leading golfers for Capitol
are Frank Deyo, Bill Patrick, Keith Hulton, Bob
Updegrove, Jim Kicinski, Bob Pugh, Steve Peters, Bill
Butch, Dan McNeillie, and Joe DeFazio.
ARCHERY:
Arrangements have been made to have the archery
targets set up as soon as the workmen can get to them.
Please note: Any one wishing to use the targets must first
check with the Rec/Ath building! This is very important!

itol's Nittany Lion poses for the
era before taking on Pittsburgh’s
Ihers.

On Saturday, April 12, the Pittsburgh Panthers invaded
Penn State Nittany Lion Country for the Blue-Gold game
at Hershey stadium. The Nittany Lion (Paul Skodacek)
was upset and counterattacked the Pitt thrust with a
dozen of Blue & White supporting fans, including the
Stompin’ Cheerleader, Al Kerchner, and a portion of the
Cotton Bowl Regiment featuring Mr. Coors himself, Gid
Wray.

A small segment of the XGI Fraternity group paraded
the inside of the field with signs following their leader,
Mr. Nittany Lion. Pittsburgh’s representative
cheerleaders were put to the test as the Lion Country
cheerleader called or screamed out counter-cheers, and
eventually embarrassed them off the field.
For some unknown reason, the area where the Penn
State fans were seated became more and more vacant as
the game progressed. But maybe it was because this
group was really hot! So hot that in fact Mr. Wray was
called from the stands to attend to his van, which was
surrounded by big red trucks and men wearing funny hats,
boots, and coats. It appears that Mr. Wray’s “Perfect
Sleeper” was sending smoke signals to Coach Paterno!
Needless to say, everyone there had a great time and
the XGI Fraternity made sure that Pitt knew that they were
in Lion Country.
