C. READER Capitol Wins Soccer Finale Valley Forge Military Academy (3-6-0) was attacked on Tuesday, November sth, by a quick-striking Capitol Campus soccer team (3-4-2). The battle was staged on the athletic field behind the Placement Center and a good sized crowd watched as Capitol dominated VF by a score of 5:1. Valley Forge instituted military maneuvers, while Capitol countered with a smooth, well-balanced game plan. Bob DeyCaza opened the scoring in the first half by lofting a kick just above the stretching arms of Capitol's first half goalie, Rick Burn field. The Valley Forge 1-0 lead did not last long, however, as Capitol's Mike Burkholder maneuvered in front of VF's goal and scored to even the game at 1:1. Ten minutes later, Armand Magnelli assisted Mike with his second goal of the game and Capitol held a 2:1 advantage. Capitol's Jim Rowe was called for a pushing violation, but Valley Forge failed to convert the indirect kick and Armand Magnelli was off winging down the left sideline again. This time, Armand lofted a beautiful pass in front of VF's goal and it was magnificently headed in by John Harris to increase Capitol's lead to 3:1. The scoring in the first half ended when Mike Burkholder's lead pass was converted by Harris, for his second goal of the game, and Capitol held a comfortable half-time lead of 4:1. team's ability and personality. The team competes with the characteristic required of any championship team and that is their easy-going attitude and looseness. Whether it's calling Bill an "animal" on the field (remember, John?) or gesting about how many Luigi's compose a soccer team, they come together on the field and play as a team. I would just like to say "thanks" to Coach Ed Trunk and the team for giving me the opportunity to write the soccer articles and wish them better luck in the oncoming Spring Soccer Season. And to all of you that might have had "cold feet" during the winter season, you won't have any excuse to come out and support the team in the The second half opened with Spring. substitutions for both teams KROOAR mlocarrowN fIfUNTIERS by GENE T. EDDY Jeff Hooten replaced Rick Burnfield in goal, Randy Hess and Jim Swope replaced Ed Mirabello and Bill Turner, respectively, for Capitol. The second half saw only one goal scored, but it was a little unusual. Randy Hess, playing outside right for Capitol, passed to center forward, Mounir Azar, but Mounir's shot deflected off of the goal post and was tapped in by Armand Magnelli, who was con veniently left unattended. Jeff Hooten made some fantastic saves at goal and Bob Schmidt, playing Center Halfback, foiled every attack up the middle by Valley Forge Military Academy.
