PAGE 3 CM GAMMA by Bob Chaapel On March 27, a federal district court in Washington, D.C. ordered the U.S. Office of Education to take a major step toward releasing $25 million in veterans cost-of-instruction funds -- the so-called "Cranston" amendment funds. The court ruled that the Office of Education must publish regulations in the FEDERAL REGISTER no later than April 16, 1973. USOE was also ordered to accept applications from colleges, process them diligently, and approve those which are qualified, before June 30. While the court did not rule specifically on the issue of release of funds, attorneys for the colleges feel that there is a strong implication that the funds will be released. The suit was filed in district court on behlaf of the National Association of Collegiate Veterans, the Community College Section of the California School Boards Association, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Further court action will be taken if necessary. At the present time both the House of Representatives and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Labor- HEW Budget are reviewing the President's request that Congress repeal or rescind the $26 million that was appropriated last year for the veterans cost-of-instruction program. Aumo's BEST $331 STEREO VALUE Individually, each of the components pictured is an outstanding sound-per-dollar• value. Together, at LBR Audio, they make up an eminently satisfying stereo system of surprisingly modest cost. The two-way H/K 20 loudspeakers are true acoustic suspension systems, wherby a small volume of air trapped in the compact cabinets controls the movement of the woofer cones for crisp and undistorted bass. Their bass performance is complemented by H/K tweeters noted for coloration•free mid-range and extended highs. The H/K 20's have been carefully designed so that they don't need an inordinate amount of amplifier power to get sufficient output. The Harman/Kardon 330 A AM FM stereo receiver. delivers a clean and honest 22 watts RMS per channel, ideal for the H/K 20's modest power demands. The Harman Kardon's sensitive AM FM tuner section will receive your favorite stations free of distortion and "hash" and there's ample flexibility for adding such niceties as stereo headphones, two speaker systems, and a tape deck. In keeping with our goal of outstanding performance for modest cost, for this system we recommend the BSR 510/X automatic record changer. It will turn your records with rock-steady accuracy, and the Shure M-75C cartridge with diamond stylus treats them gently. The individual selling prices of these components usually total $ 384,90.
