Page 4 1973-74 The Residence Living Program Office will initiate the selection of Resident Assistants for the 1973-74 academic year on Monday, April 16, 1973, in the Gallery Lounge, at 8:00 p.m., at a meeting for R.A. Applicants. The meeting is designed to discuss the Residence Living Program, the Resident Assistant Position , and the selection prodedure for candidates. The following is excerpted from "Information for Resident Assistant Applicants" to be distributed with the applications at the meeting. RESIDENCE LIVING PHILOSOPHY The intent of the Capitol Campus Residence Living Program is to provide a meaningful and rewarding environment for student growth. Facilities, plus programs combine to bring about a residence setting which is not only physically comfortable but also educationally valuable. In order to carry out the residence program, a carefully selected staff functions within the various facilities. Included in the Residence living Staff are the Resident Assistants, the Administrative Officer and the Residence living Coordinators. Each works to enhance the on-campus living environment through individual and group encounters with residents in the areas of counseling, activities and governance. "The New Birth" Coffee House, Resident Student Council, the Meade Heights Board of Governors, and the individual residences and offices of the Staff are the structures within which this interaction takes place. I. RESPONSIBILITIES OF RESIDENT ASSISTANTS: The Resident Assistant is the University's representative in the campus living area, who has broad responsibilities extending into ALL areas of the student's physical ' social, education, cultural and emotional well-being. To dwell on one or two of these areas of responsibility is to conceive of the job in narrow terms. General responsibilities of the position are listed below: 1. Resident Assistants are expected to assist the individual student in his adjustment to The Capitol Campus. This includes answering the many questions about the University and The Campus that new students may have. 2; Resident Assistants should work to the best of their ability with their fellow students giving them assistance in the understanding of their difficulties and conflicts. Resident Assistants are expected to advise and councel students within the limits of their training and capability. 3. Resident Assistants are to be cognizant of student conduct in their areas and to report problems to the Residence Coordinator as they occur. 4. Resident Assistants are expected to help organize and maintain the educational, athletic, cultural, social and other activities sponsored as part of the Residence Living Program. 5. - Resident Assistants are expected to be sensitive to the functioning residence governments within the areas. 6. Resident Assistants serve as examples for other students by setting a standard of personal conduct that is commensurate with responsibilities of the position. 111111.101116141111101MD1N1. IV. REMUNERATION: Residence Halls -- $515 fee reduction per term. Meade Heights - $390 fee reduction per term. V. STEPS IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS: 1. Candidates must be matriculating at the Capitol Campus as full-time undergraduate or graduate students at the time of filing an application for the position. 2. Candidates must have filed an application for on-campus housing for the 1973-74 I academic year before applying = for a Resident Assistant position. 3. Candidates must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 2.20 at the Capitol Campus. This average must be maintained during the period of appointment. 4; Complete the application. References must be secured by the applicant. Reference forms and self-addressed stamped envelopes are provided. References are due in the Residence Living Program Office, 946 A Kirtland Avenue, NO LATER than Friday, May 11, 1973. 5. Candidates who have a preference for a particular area (i.e. Meade Heights or the Residence Halls) should so indicate on their application Persons are assigned to the particular areas in relation to their relative individual strengths. Persons hired have the right not to accept an offer for appointment in a particular area, but will not be reconsidered for positions in other areas. Area preferences can not be guaranteed. 6. All application forms must be returned Friday, April 20, 1973, at 5:00 p.m., in the Residence Living Program Office in Meade Heights. When the recommendation have arrived, the applicant's file is complete. 7. When the files of all applicants are complete, candidates will be notified concerning the scheduling of interviews. All interested persons are encouraged to attend the meeting. If unable to attend, al though interested in appointment as a Resident Assistant, you may acquire an application in the Residence Living Program Office - 946 A Kirtland Avenue. Applications must be returned to this office NO LATER than Friday, April 20, 1973 at 6:00 p.m. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for the position.
