It was a rip-snorting game,
but Capitol lost again.
The clock was on the blink,
Capitol's foul shooting was off,
but the foul mouths were open
for business.
I'll admit that last statement
was an exaggeration, even
though the Lions were slapped
with five technical fouls in an
86-73 drubbing at the hands of
Northeast Christian Junior
College of Philadelphia. The
game was played in Philly before
a gathering of approximately
200 persons, 10 of them from
Capitol.
The contest began innocently
enough and Capitol was in
control for much of the first
half, leading by 26-19 at one
point. But complications
developed and Capitol had more
than its share of costly turnovers
and fell behind by 36 to 34 at
the half.
It was catch up ball from that
point onward, but the
roundballers were never out of it
until late in the contest. Then it
happened. With 33 seconds
SKI CLUB
ELECTS
OFFICERS
On January 16, the Ski Club
elected new officers for the
corning year. Those elected
include: George Bishop,
President; Dennis Burd,
Vice-President; Patty Nevin,
Secretary; and Sheryl Weinberg,
Treasurer.
Members of the Ski Club
journey to Roundtop each
Wednesday, meeting at 1 p.m. at
the Student Center for those
needing transportation. The
organization is also planning a
long week-end trip to Vermont
during the term break in March.
To go on the Vermont
excursion, you need not be a
club member, but it is
encouraged as skiing rates would
be less costly.
For information concerning
Wednesday skiing or the
Vermont trip, contact George
Bishop at 944-1982 or Chuck
Conroy at 944-5814.
The next meeting of the Ski
Club will be held on Tuesday,
January 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the
Student Center. That date is
also the deadline for payment of
club dues, which is three dollars.

remaining, backcourt ace Jim
Merlano was charged with a
technical and then was tossed
out of the game. Coach Al
Williams argued, and with good
reason, that Merlano could not
have' been ejected for
committing just one technical
foul. The referree countered by
slapping another "1" on
Merlano, which then constituted
grounds for ejection. Williams
was outraged. The ref retaliated
by slapping two more technicals,
this time on Williams. Al then
pulled his team off the court and
the game was suspended, the
victory being awarded to
Northeast.
Clearly the control of the
game eluded the grasp of the
officials.
All was not sour, however, as
Bob Lambert, rapidly becoming
a star, scored 28 points and
pulled down 16 rebounds. Paul
Hook, the epitome of
consistency , had 17 markers
and 10 caroms. Little Tom
Ogden had 13 points. Capitol
ended the game with a 0-2
record.
Athletic Program
Needs Participants
Mr. Robert Stanley
Recreation/Athletics
Coordinator reports a need for
more participants in the
recreation program, notably
martial arts instruction and
weight training.
Martial Arts (self-defense,
judo and karate) instruction
began on Monday, but a
minimum of ten members must
be enrolled in the co-educational
activity. Classes are once a week,
but a registration fee of five
dollars must be paid, the money
to be refunded at the end of the
term if the individual has
attended 80 percent of the
meetings.
The weight training program
began last week, but Stanley
states openings are still available
for those who wish to register.
Instruction is given by Mr. Gene
Gregoritz Sr., a professional
weight trainer, on Tuesday and
Thursday nights. Again, a $5 fee
is charged, the money to be
refunded at term's end.
Participants use the newly
acquired Universal Gym
apparatus.
For further information, call
Bob Stanley at the
Recreation/Athletics Building,
787-7751.

THE CAPITOLIST
SPRING GARDEN
WHIPS LIONS,
76-57
'by Mark Israel
The Capitol Campus
basketball team found another
way to lose a basketball game
Saturday night.
They lost to Spring Garden
College 76-57. They did it by
shooting a horrendous 26.5%.
The loss dropped their record to
a dismal 0-3.
The team hustled like they
never have before. They actually
hsutled enough to win. But
when you shoot 26.5%, you can
hustle till your knees are raw,
and you'll still lose.
No one can seem to come up
with the right answer, not even
Coach Al Williams, who has
never been a loser throughout
his brilliant career. Or at least,
he won't make any reasons he
might have public.
At the outset, the game
looked like it would be close.
The lead changed hands four
times in the first three minutes
and was tied at 16 at 14:13.
Despite shooting 25.5% in the
first half, Capitol never trailed
by more than 8 and was down
by only 7 at halftime, 38-31.
The second half was a little
different. Capitol's shooting
remained poor, and Spring
Garden began to open up a
commanding lead. They
outscored the Lions 9-1 in the
first four minutes to build a
47-32 lead.
Capitol tightened up to close
the gap to 9 at 5142, but Spring
Garden began to pull away
again, and scored 10 straight
points in 3:09 to give them a
67-46 advantage.
From there, they just coasted
to victory, building up a 23
point spread twice. Only two
baskets in the closing 24 seconds
brought the final spread to
under twenty. On a brighter
note, our cheerleaders, captained
by Rita Girondi, were
outstanding once again. They
outperformed their opposition
for the third time in three
games. Rita, can you shoot
basketball?
