January 11, 1973 (Continued from 4) females. The age of the "victim" in each case was lowered in the law from 21 to 18. CIVIL LAW Students, and others, 18 and over are now legal adults in many areas covered by civil law, through seven acts passed by the Legislature, related to the following subjects: 1. Making a will. 2. Taking title to real estate. 3. Entering into binding contracts. 4. The right to be personal representatives (executor, administrator, etc.) 5. Accepting Income from life insurance. 6. Females working in certain occupations. 7. Obtaining marriage license without parental consent. Of special consideration for students is the "binding contracts" area. In general, a minor has always had the right to enter into a binding contract but a minor's contracts are voidable (not void). The distinction between a voidable and a void contract, in this case, means that a minor is considered to be at a disadvantage, when dealing with aduls in the matter of contracts, because of lack of experience. Therefore, while he is still a minor, and in fact for a time after coming of age, he may disaffirm any contract, with limited exceptions, which he has made during his minority. The adult who has made a contract with a minor may not disaffirm. In other words, the minor can hold the adult to the contract but the adult cannot hold the minor. (Contracts which a minor cannot disaffirm include military enlistment, marriage contracts where the marriage has been performed but not a marriage to be performed in the future. Certain contracts for food, clothing, lodging, medical care, and proper education are enforceable against the minor to a 'reasonable value' extent.) But under Act No. 151, 1972, any person 18 years of age or older has the right to enter into binding and legally enforceable contracts "and the defenses of minority shall not be available to such person. Now the 18-20 year old person is bound on his contracts as persons 21 or over so that he must now use caution in entering into any contracts, sales, purchases, leases, deeds, releases, etc. OTHER RULES AND CUSTOMS Both governments and educational organizations have Kevin Moore Campus Agent Phone 732-0696 YOUR GOOD NEIGHBOR An experienced Mutual of Omaha health insurance specialist. The curtains have been drawn. They are of many colors- but white. They are clean and neat and pleated. Why no white curtains? Don't whites get dirty too? Can't whites see they too are on the stage? They too wear masks. They too are laughed at, cried at, and clapped at too. But then whites haven't been alone on this stage- of history. History is the story- it's the play. It's been played over and over again. We know who's been on top. But "fuck" that. Today is a new history- a new play. The script is not the same. When I see these two people before me I see a new script written It doesn't have to be hidden under. It's not about drug history, drugs kill. It's about love-like history. My curtains are open to you. And I hope you too mind. The 26th amendment to the Federal Constitution regarding Voting, the equal protecting clause of the 14th amendment, the Federal Draft Act, all require that 18 year olds be considered adults.
