Thursday, May 25, 1972 Delta Tau Kappa, the international social science honor society, will hold a regular meeting on May 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the T.V. Lounge. The Alpha chapter will utilize the meeting to finaliie the plans for the Open Forum during the first week of June. Provost Robert E. McDermott will be featured in the forum. The group will also discuss plans and activities which DTK will sponsor during the 1972-73 academic year. Many speakers, forums, and cultural and educational events are in the works for the coming year. The honor society also plans to continue its student advising program which it established during fall orientation last year. Last Thursday, DTK sponsored a seminar on "Careers in Mental Health", featuring are people working in the field of mental health rehabilitation. The professionals stressed that mental illness is a disease entirely different from mental retardation. Retardation is a condition acquired at birth; mental illness is a condition protracted by interaction in society, thepanerclaimed. The panelists mentioned that while jobs in the field of mental health rehabilitation are not plentiful, there remains a need for highly trained professionals and volunteer workers. John K. Stauffer, a student at Capitol Campus, was also a panel member. He is currently Vice-President of the Aurora Club, which is relatively like an out-patient activities center for mental health patients. DTK stresses that its members need not be students in the social science program. The qualifications for membership are only a 3.0 cumulative grade-average at Capitol and 20 or more credit hours of instruction in the social sciences in an entire college career.
