Page 2 Degree Change Controversy by Mike Welliver Now that the Autonomy measure has been passed for Capitol Campus there are inklings of several changes for the not-to-distant future. One of the changes which has been receiving a good deal of attention lately concerns the change in degree nomenclature. While there has been no final decision made as yet, there has been extensive investigation on the part of concerned students and faculty members. What the degree change involves is this: Let's take for example a Humanities student. After completing the curriculum requirements he receives a degree which reads 'Bachelor of Humanities'. The degree change would make the diploma read `Bachelor of Arts in Humanities'. Although this might seem to some to be a trivial change, it is in fact an important one. Many students have found Decry Poor Medical Facilities by Thomas C. Fox Thomas C. Fox has been reporting from Viet Nam for the past two years. He is fluent in Vietnamese. SAIGON, VIETNAM -- Vietnamese war victims who miaht have been saved in hospitals are now l'Uyrinin in over-crowded and understaffed Vietnamese hospitals, according to a group of twenty-five foreign doctors and medical personnel working in Vietnam. "Although we urge a rapid and complete withdrawal of the American military, we beseech the American government and people to remember the Indochinese victims still suffering from the U.S. government's tragic mistakes," an open letter addressed to President Nixon and the American Medical Association and released here last week stated. "U.S. military hospital facilities are being closed too rapidly to Vietnamese civilians" and the "South Vietnamese government health care system is not effectively filling these significant new gaps," the letter reads. that their opportunities as far as job placement or continuing education goes, has been jeopardized by the vagueness of the wording on their degrees. The degree change would hopefully give the employer a better idea of the graduate's educational background. Before this degree change becomes permanent, however, it must go through several channels including the administration, the faculty, the Dean and Provost, the Board of Trustees, and finally through the University Park system. A faculty meeting, held yesterday, was to decide the faculty's position on the issue. Details of that meeting were not available for this issue of the paper so more information will be in'the next. Anyone having questions or comments on the degree change issue should address them to the Ca pitolist. Doctors In Viet Nam "Compared to 1970 war casualties admitted to U.S. military hospitals have decreased by about ninety-five percent while the casualty rate itself has only decreased by about twenty percent" the letter said. The physicians and social workers who work in Vietnamese hospitals and social welfare institutions throughout Vietnam said they have taken statistics from the most recent available American and Vietnamese government reports, showing this decline in assistance. The number of civilian war casualties admitted to U.S. military hospitals in the latter half of 1971 was less than fifteen percent of those admitted during the first half of 1971, according to the physicians' letter. U.S. military hospitals have been closing down throughout South Vietnam rather than turning them over to Vietnamese for the care of war victims, several of those who signed the letter stated in an interview this week. "The American government is arming Vietnamese, forcing them to fight to kill each other, but then turning its back on the maimed, soldiers and civilians THE CAPITOLIST words Mm The Oilier Side OP He It Today Heard It Tomorrow Once again, brought to you live, that once in a lifetime, never to be forgotten, spine-tingling game show YOU BET YOUR DEGREE! U.S. financial aid, on the other hand, for police efforts is increasing while the percentage of aid to medical teams is decreasing, the letter stated. O.K. So once again, we spin the deal, where it stops, who cares. But, before we start, let's find out what losing is all about. I was a drop-in until I discovered what it was all about. Sure, I went through it for a while. But, one day, I was asked, while casually describing what it was all about, "What's it to yah, Mac?" Well, you can imagine my condition, when turning my head slowly to the left, I discovered, I didn't know. So I went, I talked, I looked, I searched, I crawled . . . To my sorrow, it would not appear. One day, while on my knee, I saw a pair of shoes; looking up at it, the most astonishing thing it. From there I went on to this point, and I say to you It ain't worth it. Yessir, another amazing success story which you can step Neubauer Publishes Book Dr. F. Frederick Neubauer, associate professor of business,' has published a book in Germany entitled "Wie Amerikas Manger fuer Morgen Planen" -- "How American Managers Plan For Tomorrow." The book deals mainly with American management accounting techniques and examines the extent to which differences in management accounting in the United States and Germany are caused by differences in the management philosophy of the two countries. Published by the German publishing house, R. Piper & Co., of Munich, the more than 300 page volume is designed to inform German business leaders as well as graduate students scheduled for Berks Campus at Wyomissing; 180 at Capitol Campus at Middletown; 90 at Wilkes-Barre Campus at Wilkes-Barre; 80 at Schuylkill Campus at Schuylkill Haven; and 60 at Worthington Scranton Campus at Dunmore. Sam's field is all dried up (sick laughter follows, a solitary boo floats leisurely downward), ha. No, Sam is majoring in the field of Introspective Applications ink Diversification of Sibling Paranoia. WOW! Sam, could you tell us a little bit about it? Sure, Addy. It's a wide-open field. Like the field is so wide-open, man, that left field is the size of all centerfield. What I'm doing is working on the predictable aspects of Pre-Interior Thought, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of how the left wrist functions. Opportunities and advancement are in such dynamic state of atrophy to the untrained eye. Hey now, That's really something. What kind of a backround do you need to pursue this? Well, Addy, using myself as an example, forty hours of Sequence Therapy, with literary applications, seventeen hours of Intuitive Awakeness, which includes such course work as: Restor Retrospective Degradation in Consumer Affiliations; Parsimonous Nomenclature in Developing Nations; the other undergraduate pre-requisites are much too involved to get into right now. Say, now that's something. Let's hear it for Sam, huh? Come on (shrieks, gunshots and expiring gas are entwined as the picture dissolves and a flashing sign catches the nation's attention.)
