Capitol Loses Open' Cincinnati and Houston never played last Wednesday because of the major league strike. But, Capitol Campus opened their season with a 10-1 loss to Lehigh County Community College. The score does not indicate the true competition of the game. Lehigh County scored nine runs, of which eight were unearned, in the second inning. They used four hits and five errors in that nine run frame. The big blow in the inning was a grand-slam by Szalakowski of Lehigh. Capitol did not have toe much to cheer about during the game. They had singles by Decon, Cuss and Maeder. Rosenzweig chipped in a double for the losers. Capitol's only run was unearned. It was scored in the seventh when Lastowski crossed ALL IN THE FAMILY TAKES FIRST PUCE IN IBA The winter term bowling league came to an end March 15th with the league rolloffs at the Middletown Lanes. The championship was decided by total pins for three games with each team receiving a handicap. The final results were as follows: TEAM 1. All in the Family 2. F. 0.8.0. 3. XGI 4. Pinheads 5. Hermies Since there was a tie for the fourth position in the rolloffs, five teams competed for the championship. Unlike the fall term rolloffs when the Hermies ran away with the championship, this rolloff wasn't decided until the last frame of the last game was bowled. With just about everyone on all the teams bowling above their league averages, the individual scores and team scores were pretty high. In the first game Frank Brown's consistent bowling got F. 0.8.0. off to a fast start with a 43 pin lead over second place Hermies and an 86 pin lead over fifth place All in the Family. All in the Family was able to stay in the battle because of the hot bowling of Stan Krunsky and Jerry Matonis. The second game was catch up time for All in the Family. With Cliff Claypool bowling a 202 game and Gunter Idler, Mike Kilgallon and Jerry Matonis all bowling 180 games, All in the Family made up 70 pins and only trailed F. 0.8.0. by 15 pins going into the third and deciding game. In the third game the XGI made a big comeback with Gary Gold and Max Brady having good games. By the 7th frame the championship looked like a dead heat between F. 0.8.0., All in the Family and the XGrs. However, in the end it was Gunter Idler's strikes, and the rest of the Family's consistent spare shooting that, finally, made the difference and gave All in the Family first place and the championship by 22 pins over second place F. 0.8.0. ALL SPORTS AWARD The XGl's won the 1972 Winter All-Sports Award with a total accumulation of 1184.5 points. Lehigh added another unearned run in the seventh. The Capitol Campus nine seems to have some promise this year. Since the team had only one practice before the game, the team was somewhat rusty. The pitching of Earl Leach, Andy Burger and Andy Oronzi seems solid. The program will begin April 10 in the Rec/Aths Building at 8:00 PM. There are six openings. The program will be open to novices and beginners. Depending on individual interest there will be opportunities for competition. Instruction nights will be Monday and Thursday from 8-10:00 PM. The cost for the program is $lO per person, and this fee is not refundable. Judo ghias may be checked out nightly to persons with valid ID cards. Locker room facilities with showers are available. The course will end Wednesday, June 14, 1972. Golf Rates Sunset Golf Course is offering Capitol Campus students a special year-round rate ticket for $25.00.
