The County of Dauphin Child Care Service's Big Brother and Big Sister Program is looking for unselfish people to become a "friend" to a child. Are you dependable, patient, caring, and understanding? If you are that's what it takes to be a Big Brother or Big Sister. The Big Brother/Big Sister Program's purpose is one in which you provide a slow-growing relationship through companionship. What is offered to the child is your capacity to be an understanding adult brother or sister. You weigh your words when you are with him you do not tell your friends about his background. You will not want to betray the child. You may have problems, but we can provide help. The children range in age from 6 to 18 years. They come 'i , 4 I' 1 4 I t 1111 by Greg Crescenzo It will never be the same. A quite simple sentence containing the magic to shatter instantly what once stood moments before. A quiver that reaches deep within our universe, shattering even things we knew could never have an answer. The stomach turns in a sickening quease. Why must it never be the same? Knowing, never again, that special joy will fill our being as we once were amazed by its presence; grew fond and boastful of; and fmal dependence upon this mystical cloud that perpetually rained that certain happiness found when two people find need and satisfaction in the breath they together suck from earth. Though neither realize from where such hell, found in the total revelation that once was, lies dead as the still-born child face down in the hard ground. The afterbirth lying simply as a shroud upon the tiny shoulders Is a match of rust iron taste left by despair. There is nothing to be done. All has happened; the memory remains, persuading the most innocent gesture or sound that continually reminds of that which once was. We notice a softness of a face and in that brief second, time is a curtain. That day in the park, a kiss--now that fragrance; a large tear fills the mind. INTENSITY PLEASE BREAK THE SPELL I cannot. ,Yet something within takes the journey to the balcony of a moviehouse; the dreams that then seemed so wasted dreaming-then it is now. Vacant stares of those returning can fill a world to overflowing-drink the Coke, light a cigarette—numb it. Can coincidence continue the life that was brought to a subtle stop? Is chance the afterlife? Alone, the wondering is everlasting, what once was is now gone—it can never be the same. Frustration, indifference and stare (ing) we wonder just how in the hell tomorrow can ever be. HOT LME -944-1033 "Hey Lae! Noy Mister. "WANNA BE MY BIG BROTHER OR BIG SISTER" from everywhere looking for an unselfish person to depend upon. If you are interested in working with a child, please call or contact: Mrs. Carol Furst, County of Dauphin, CHILD CARE SERVICE, 17 North Front Street, Harrisburg, Penna. 17101. Phone: 238-9486. There are bi-weekly phone contacts with the Caseworker to avoid any problems from developing. There are also five general meetings a year of all the Big Brothers and Big Sisters to share experiences and to aid one another in their problems. T. Graham H. Hilton 0. LaGrone D. Lasky J.
