A powerful Messiah College
‘s’ invaded Middletown’s Main
Street Gym on January 25
looking to barrel over the Lions.
They hardly did that. Even
though Messiah did defeat
Capitol, it was not by the
embarrassing score which
marked last year’s game. In 1971,
Messiah won 135-59, Captiol’s
worst loss in history. In this
contest, the Lions lost 93 to 71,
but the game was closer than the
score indicates.
The Lions played well. They
shot 50% from the field and
sank 9 of 11 free throws. But the
taller visitors were to much for
the roundballers. Messiah
dominated the boards and pulled
than 300 formal and informal
papers and reports were
presented on virtually every
aspect of highway and urban
transportation during some 63
technical sessions, symposia, and
conferences.
“Urban Transportation in the

In the second period, the

then Capitol’s star forward, Joe

points in a row near the end to

Rick Miller paced the Lions

14 points and 13 rebounds while
Larry Chupka added 17 markers

attended. Speakers were Francis
C. Turner, Federal Highway
Administrator, and Carlos C.
Villarreal, Urban Mass
Transportation Administrator.
Both men head agencies which
are part of the U. S. Department
of Transportation.
The Urban Mass
Transportation Administration
became a supportion member of
the regular technical activities of
HRB in May, 1971, in line with
the Board’s increasing activity in
the area of mass transportation.
Mr. Villarreal and Mr. Turner are
both ex-officio members of the
HRB’s Executive Committee.
Heading the Capitol Campus
delegation, which was one of the
largest in attendance were: Dr.
John D. Antrim, Program
Chairman, and Dr. Moore, Dr.
Dahir, Dr. Atkins and Mr.
Harmon.
The Highway Research Board
was organized in 1920 and is a
cooperative organization of
highway technologists in the
United States. The Board’s
purpose is to advance knowledge
of the nature and performance
to transportation systems
through the stimulation of
research and the dissemination
of information resulting from
such research. The board
operates within the Division of
Engineering of the National
Research Council, which serves
both the National Academy of
Sciences and the National
Academy of Engineering.
