1972 Varsity Basketball
At Capitol Campus
What is in store for us at
Capitol Campus this Winter
Term? If you will follow the
varsity basketball team we are
hoping that you will see the
beginning of a new era. We have
a team that is mainly composed
of Juniors who give the
impression of dedication to
“winning”.
They will have to be dedicated
to face the toughest schedule ever
devised for a Capitol Campus
Hardwood Five. We face 3 teams
from the PSU Commonwealth, 6
teams from the four-year varsity
college/university systems and 7
junior colleges or junior varsity
teams. None of these teams are
to be rated as “push-overs” and
some of them can be rated as
“impossibilities.” It all depends
on how much heart Coach
Aungst's Hardwood Five has for
the Game. Why don’t you come
to see and cheer our team.
RECORD WIN

a basketball pme. What they
played more resembled a
demolition derby. In a record
breaking contest, the Capitol
Campus Lions steamrolled to a
124 to 75 win. It was the first
win against three loses for the
Lions. The team really put it
together and absolutely
obliterated their opponent.
Many records were set or
equaled in the contest. Capitol’s
124 points exceeded the
previous team high of 106 set
against York College in 1969.
The victory margin of 49
markers tied a school record.
New records also set for the
team were: most rebounds; best
field goal percentage; and best
free throw percentage.
Paul Hook, the 6 foot 2 inch
center set the pace with 28
points. Joe Duda followed with
21 and Larry Chupka had 16
points. It look’s as though the
team has begun to jell and the
club of 10 juniors and two
seniors is ready to improve their
record. Let’s all get out to the
games and give the chib ou.r
fiercest support.
THE CAPITOLIST
ON THE
MOVE
Rage,rape against the dying of
the light. But listen well, the
light is already dead. Sea of
mindless moaning, toking,
making music and love and
meaningful raps, and all of it
dark, no light anywhere, follow
the designated paths, say the
designated words, wear the
designated clothes, grow the
designated hair, like the
designated music, dislike the
designated music, take the
designated drugs, drink the
designated juice. Who dares to
stray? Indeed, where would one
stray? It’s all gobbled up,
co-opted, designated, approved
by the Comics Code Authority.
And if you do, really do, find
something new and different to
do or be, well, friend, you have
exactly until someone finds out
about it to be novel. So fuck
you all. Let this be my
declaration of independence. I
quit. (And now quitting is
fashionable. You’re not With It
unless you’re alienated from the
alienated.) But, goddammit, I’m
a free man! I’m different!
(Interlude for a Nutty Buddy.
Where was I? Oh, yeah.
Different.) Rise up from your
chains. You have nothing to lose
but your stability. Nothing to
gain but frustration. One way
out, one only. Accept Mel
Lyman as your personal savior.
Or Jesus Christ. Or Baba Ram
Dass. Or Mescalito. Or Grant
Funk Railroad. It’s all pretty
much the same, isn’t it? All
escape, lobotomies
self-administered, self
perpetuated, self-delusory. You
fool, Do you think you can
escape the ever present Grand
Ennui? (Cosmic Trooth coming
up. Get ready.) Well, folks, sure
you can! Just assume that
everything ever said or done is
absurd (including this thing you
are now reading), and take it
from there. Bye!

The intramural basketball
season is in full swing with 17
teams participating in two
divisions. The games are being
played in the base Gym every
night except Friday and
Saturday. Come over and see
them play. It is still early in the
season and I haven’t seen all the
teams play, but it seems the
X.G.I. “A” team with a 2-0
record, after the first week is the
team to beat. They have a
combination of height, speed,
and outside shooting, that will
behard to beat. Other
contenders are: Alumni, AMF
Blue, Trojans, Ghoti,
Brotherhood.
