It is extremely difficult to speculate on this point for all the roles under the new structure have yet to be defined. A conflict has arisen within the Faculty Senate as to exactly who shall take an active role in the selection process for the new provost. Several members of the faculty voted against the Faculty Council motion that the names of four of its own members plus four at-large members of the faculty be sent to President Oswald who will then select four to serve on the search committee for the new provost. Although the motion passed by a wide majority, there are those who have seriously questioned the credibility of the decision. One such individual is Dr. Tom Knight, a former member of the Faculty Council who feels that the students should have a more direct and active role in the selection process. Dr. Knight claims that the action taken by the Faculty Council and Senate in not including the names of students in their recommendation to the President has implied that “niere democracy has become radical.” He added however that a strong Student Government Association would of been in the position to demand representation on the search Dr. Knight also critized the Faculty Council for not recommending to the Faculty Senate that the eight individuals to be submitted to On The Way To The State Hospital.. Representatives of Veteran’s Clubs from 19 colleges in Pennsylvania took part in a one-day meeting Saturday, April 3, at the Capitol Campus. Chi Gamma lota, ex-servicemen’s fraternity at the campus, hosted the conference which was held in the Main Building. Speakers included Robert D. Ford, of the Governor’s Council for Human Services; Dr. Joseph P. Gavenonis, director of the Bureau of Private Schools and Veterans, Education, Pennsylvania Department of Education; Dr. James J. Smith, coordinator of Identity ‘69, and Robert Spanogle, president of the National Association of College Veterans. Also taking part were Stuart Feldman, of Washington, D.C., chairman of the National HEY. I’M A NEW STUDENT by Thomas Ogden On an inconspicuous Thursday, not too long ago-as a matter of fact it was, perhaps aptly, April Fool’s Day-about a hundred new students invaded this campus. Some were returning students; others were transfers from different colleges or various Commonwealth Campuses of PSU (“For the glory of Old State”); still others were ex-Gl’s. The story you are about to read is true; only the names are the same to intimidate the innocent. I arrived on campus somewhere around two on March 31. I had until 4:30 to check into my room. I discovered I had been accepted into Meade, and after visits back and forth from Meade to the dorm to Meade to the dorm, ad nauseum, I decided to stay in the dorm. (“What, you fool!” cry the Meaders. “The dorms?”) Seems I didn’t want to move in with three unknowns in mid-season, not knowing what sport I’d be playing. Anyway I got back to the dorms, or more correctly, into the Housing Office. One girl was trapped in her room and couldn’t get out. Another boy in a single was doubled and some girl who wanted to double with what’s-his-name was singled. Problems, problems. Indiscrimately roomed with another guy waiting in the Housing Office, I was lucky to be thrown in with another guy like me-shy, quiet, reserved, nonchalant, handsome, intelligent, modest... So what? Every student goes Committee of Veterans Benefits, and Rudy Frank, of the Economic Opportunities Commission. Ford, a 1970 Capitol Campus graduate, has been instrumental in development of the Program to Advance Veterans Education (PAVE). Ralph Bailor, president of the Capitol Campus Chapter of Chi Gamma lota, said the 69 delegates attending the conference discussed various topics, including the PAVE program, communication between colleges and organization plans. The delegates, he said, agreed to form a state organization, with officers to be elected at a meeting planned for May 1 at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. through the same thing, you say. Well, this was the pleasant half of the article, to lull you into a pleasant sense of euphoria for the bland attacks of the remainder. Why is it that no matter where new people go they must always be the one to say “hello” first? Not that anyone is under an obligation to talk to a new student, except maybe his advisor. But it gets so tiresome saying, “I’m a new student, and...” In Fall it is different; I went to another PSU campus. In Fall nobody knows anyone. But a student coming in mid-year needs a friendly greeting. We were indoctrinated into the registration procedures, advisor routine, etc., but why were there no students to tell us what to do at nights, to tell us we can get seconds at the Dining Hall, to warn us about, well, you know which prof. True, there were only about a hundred of us on campus that first weekend; but why were there no activities, NOTHING HAPPENING, to get us into the groove of things until the following week, if not for our sake, for yours. (Sorry, don’t mean to bitch.) So now, fined to death, having learned the hard way and already dropped one of my courses (number two coming up? I guess not, now that I’ve read this much), weary of the do-nothing weekends on campus, and STILL vainly searching a good piano on campus, I fall in behind the rest of the campus, thinking, “Why doesn’t anyone do anything?” Page 3 POTPOURRI by Missy Rotondaro I want to make it known that I alone, did not write this masterpiece this week. Since there have been many requests for another delicious Potpourri recipe, I decided to share with you this quick, easy to prepare dish Snapperoni Franks Ingredients: 3 frankfurters 152 pork and beans (in tomato sauce) 2 bowl fulls (diced pepperoni) 1 bottle catsup 2 bowl fulls (pickle relish) 6 frankfurter buns, split Now, begin by placing franks in boiling water; simmer, covered, around 20-25 minutes or until all puffed up. Meanwhile, mash all those pork and beans up, slightly now, in fact wash your hands and use your fingers to mash. Now combine those beans and the pepperoni and the catsup and throw in that pickle relish too. Cook and stir. Toast buns. Place franks on buns accordingly. Now spoon on that heavy bean mixture.
