SPORTS REPORTS:
One of the advantages of sports is
the legitimate socially approved
means of releasing tension and bring
ing the participants in closer union.
It is one of the few areas of competi
tion which brings about a closer
union between the team members and
their opposition. The idea of good
sportsmanship consists of a willing
ness to win and a friendliness to
ward your opponent when you lose,
because no one likes a sore loser.
This concept is far from passe and
here at Capitol there is demonstra
tive proof. Some members of Studs
B and Studs A gathered together for
a short interview. Ron Johnson, cap
tain of Studs A and RA in charge of
recreation activities in the dorms,
speaking with agreement from the
other fellows, said “there was a
whole-hearted effort on the part of
the guys, increased communication
between the fellows of Ist floor Wris
berg and 3rd floor Church. The
teams help getting people together
and brings greater harmony in the
residence area.” Most of the guys on
Ist floor Wrisberg seem to get along
and are friendly with everyone. The
Studs A and B teams are guys from
the floor, with a few exceptions. They

all agree the games are for the fun
of it, but at times express ambitions
of winning. The Studs B team is in
second place and their spokesrrian
Jim Cryder said his team will be
Number One and they are the best in
the league. Unfortunately, Jim will
not be physically participating due to
a foot injury, a sorry loss since he
was the punter. Stan Krumsky, an
end and defensive back is also out
due to a leg injury. Their injuries
were a setback in the game against
the XGI team. The Studs A team
claims their difficulty in comparison
to Studs B was because the teams in
their league are tougher, the mem
bers of A seemed to approve the com
ment. The tough teams were the
DMZ and the Jaycees.
The intramural football has been
the seed for other sports such as
Studs bowling league, volleyball
team, and horseshoe team. The flag
football games were a major cause of
injuries, an irony which all the guys
found humorous.
The meeting was the cause for
much laughter and humorous scenes.
I gained another insight into the co
hesive theory about competitive
sports.
