And other traffic of the sort is excusable, but I truly believe there is no need for traffic on the walkways, especially during change of classes. That’s just the way I feel. Coping with “Comparable Worth” As the president of Women Today and a Human Resource Management major, I have viewed the comparable worth issue with great interest. To say that it is a delicate, sensitive issue is an understatement. While the nature of this idea is very appealling at first glance, I think realistically enforc ing comparable worth would be an economic nightmare. I have been a bank teller and a secretary and often felt underpaid and burdened with responsibilities not in line with my so-called “value” to my employer. Yet I did not choose to trade places with the truck drivers or maintenance workers whose much larger paychecks I cashed. It’s an economic world-jobs are “valued” based on many things; one being supply and demand. There are still too many women willing to work in low wage occupations If a demand is created for a certain occupation, those wages will naturally in Student commends career placement I would like to thank Mary Beth Peterson, Behrend’s Career and Placement and Financial Aid Of ficer, for helping coordinate the recent Job Fair at Mercyhurst. Approximately 27 firms from western Pennsylvania participated in the program to offer job inter views to graduating seniors. I think those who participated made good contacts and gained valuable experience. Last spring this co-op held a Career Fair where representatives from 83 professions were available to answer our questions. This year’s Career Fair will be held here at Behrend. Another useful event was this Tail’s Graduate School Fair held at Villa Maria. For those of us planning to go to graduate school, we had the chance to talk to representatives of 53 graduate schools.
