MAY 2, 1985 FEATURE “In What Respect Do You Think Behrend Has Improved Over The Last Year?” Randy Stankey: (Second Semester, HRIM) “They are building up their reputation and getting more publicity. Basically, I think the most improvement is in the community. People are look ing at Behrend and saying ‘this is the place to go’. They are trying to build up that image and I think they are doing a pretty good job at that.” Randy Stankey Maryann Servy: (Seventh Semester, Psychology) “I don’t think Behrend has improved because they are doing away with the liberal arts program. They are doing away with most of the liberal arts teachers. I’m not an engineering major and that’s the bottom line. They have done away Next Year’s Cultural Series Offers A Wide Variety by Paula Mans Collegian Feature Editor The Pennsylvania State Univer sity’s Cultural Series is complete. I think the library and the limited resources here are an embarassment to education at Penn State University.” Jill Startaii: (Second Semester, Industrial Psychology) “I don’t think it made any drastic changes. As far as educational, academic or athletics, they haven’t changed that much. Parties are still the events as last year, yet we schedul ed a nice variety so students won’t feel ‘cultured out’.” This year’s Cultural Series, “had two and sometimes three events planned per week. This abundance left students feeling that they could catch events another time,” Grimm emphasiz ed. “Many events are beneficial. THE BEHREND COLLEGIAN Student Voice same. I haven’t noticed anything really major.” Steve Johnson: (Fourth Semester, Social and Behavioral Sciences) “I think the new com puter system is going to help with registration. I think we’ve seen that this year. The battle of the bands was a lot of fun. I don’t think we did anything like that last year. We have more activities this year than last year.” Ed Thompson: (Second Semester, Electrical Engineering) “I’ve only been here one semester. Since I’ve been here, student involement and participa tion has been greater. KDR (Kap pa Delta Rbo) has been formed, which is the best thing that pro However, students didn’t take ad vantage of them,” Grimm added. The advantage of next year’s Cultural Series is “Not as many events offer a specialness, therefore it will be a unique ex perience each time for the stu dent,” Grimm explained. In choosing events for the Cultural Series, all 22 Penn State campuses appoint committees consisting of music, arts, theatre and misc. These committees choose which activities will be per formed on each campus. Behrend College contributes to funding for their series along with University Park and the Pennsylvania Arts Council. This past year, Avante Theatre, which consists of 10 members, performed When Colored Girls Have Considered Suicide When bably ever happened to Behrend.” Athea Willis: (Second Semester, Nutrition) “In the beginning of the year, I think there was a lot of distance bet ween the students. But now with us living together and being around each other so much, a lot of people who had reservations about other people are beginning to get to know them. It seems like people have a broader perspective of other students from other Kerry McCullough: (Fourth Semester, Logistics) “I think Behrend will attract more people with the apartments and the new buildings. I don’t think it has changed that much since last year, The Rainbow Is Enuf at Behrend College. The jazz ensemble, “A Dif ferent Class”, performs old and contemporary jazz with a mix of instrumental and vocal pieces. They have performed on stage with jazz greats such as Ramsey Lewis and Grover Washington, Jr. THE CARD GALLERY K-f Hart Plaza East Buffalo Rd. 899-8782 Don't forget Mother's Day on May 12... have a safe and happy summer. vtp but with their future plans I think they will improve.” Interviews conducted by Col legian Staff Writer Greg Rath bun Will Stutts returns next year in a rendition of Give ‘Em Hell Harry.
