Placement Center Provides
Employment Information
by Lisa Pavadore
Collegian Feature Editor
Every year, many students have
the problem of finding summer
jobs. Obtaining summer employ
ment can be aggravating and
disappointing but there are jobs
out there for students who know
where to look. The Placement Of
fice on the second floor of the Ad
ministration Building has summer
job sources to be used by in
terested students.
A pamphlet from the United
States Office of Personnel
Management regarding summer
employment, provided by the
federal government, can be found
in the Placement Office.
While most of the jobs listed
are located in the Washington
D.C. area, there is a list of the
FEATURE
federal agencies for each state that
one can contact to obtain a list of
regional employment oppor
tunities. Some effort is required
on the student’s part, but the
qualifications for obtaining
employment are easy to fulfill and
the pay looks pretty good.
Summer work-study employ
ment is available for on and off
campus. Eligibility for summer
work study is based on financial
need, determined by filing a
1985-86 need analysis document
and a summer 1985-86 financial
aid application. Both of these ap
plications can be obtained from
the Financial Aid Office in the
Administration Building.
Once these forms are processed,
the university determines financial
eligibilty for work-study. This
THECOLLEGIAN
award is applicable to both in
state and out-of-state students.
Employers in Cape Cod, Mar
tha’s Vineyard and Nantucket will
be hiring students for summer
employment. A catalog of these
jobs can be acquired by sending a
business size, self-addressed,
stamped envelope with $3 to:
Cape Cod Summer Job Bureau
Box 594, Room 5 Barnstable, MA
02630. If a summer on the beach
sounds interesting, this might be
worth the effort.
There is other local summer
employment opportunities infor
mation in the Placement Office.
Many students wait imtfl it is too
late to apply for jobs. The time to
apply is now.
