Theatre Callboard
The First Daring Step
By Carolyn Brost
Ever walk past the Administra
tion Building coming from Nick
or Behrend Building and see a
small building resembling a barn
on your left? Ever wonder what
goes on in that building? Well, for
those of you who were here at
Behrend before this year, maybe
you have ventured toward this lit
tle barn and have even peeked in.
Of course, the really ambitious
people have even gone as far as
buying tickets periodically to
come inside and be entertained.
Whether you are freshmen,
sophomores, juniors, or even
seniors, (yes, we do have a few
here), I challenge you to take that
daring step and visit the theatre,
for that is what our barn really is.
And this year, like every other,
magic is coming to life on stage.
The Behrend Players, which is
the name of our. theatre organiza
tion, has returned and is shining
as bright as the lights which il
luminate our stage.

We are interested, dedicated
people who love the theatre; and
who want this art form to remain
prominent at Behrend College.
What we are presently engaged
in is a play called Story Theater
composed of a number of short
fables adapted from Aesop and
Grimm Brothers Fables. The cast
members include fresh, new faces
who have never performed at
Behrend before. The freshmen
cast includes: Matthew Donovan,
Jennifer George, Judy Hood,
Janice Jackovitz, Kimberly
Papay, and William Sturdevan),
with Michele Mammana on lights.
Anyone interested in becoming
involved with the technical aspect
of the theater, such as painting the
set, props, or costumes are
welcome to stop by the theater
Monday through Friday between
7:00 and 10:00 p.m. Even if you
are curious as to what is going on,
feel free to visit us. Fred Becker is
directing the show and Carolyn

THE BEHREND COLLEGIAN
Brust is assisting.
Paul Iddings, director and
teacher at Behrend College was
taken ill this summer and was
unable to direct the first show of
the year. The Behrend Players
have therefore stepped in.
However, without the talent and
guidance of Mr. Iddings, we
would never have been qualified
to put this show on. We thank
him and wish him a speedy
recovery and since he will be back
in Erie on September 16, we'd like
to say "Welcome home, Paul."
Dates for Story Theater are Oc
tober 7,8, and 9 at 8:00 p.m.
Doors open at 7:30. Tickets are
available at the door or by calling
