Tolkein fantasy "The Hobbit" will come to life at Behrend College on Tuesday, March 25, in a performance by the Hutsah Puppet Theatre. The selection has become even more appropriate since in late January Kochel was named assistant vice president for ad ministration and will be assuming his new post at Penn State on September 1. It is also fitting that the guest speaker at the testimonial, also selected months ago, will be Dr. Richard E. Grubb, senior vice president for administration at Penn State, who will be Kochel's new boss. Dr. John W. Oswald, Penn State president, in announcing Kochel's appointment, recognized the Behrend director Outing Club Plans Diverse Treks Behrend's Outing Club has scheduled four major trips for the spring term. The activities in clude skydiving, white water raf ting, backpacking, and climbing and rapelling. A movie and seminar on skydiving are planned for Wed nesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reed Union Building lecture hall. At this meeting members will be able to _ sign up for skydiving lessons at a total cost of $65.00. While at Behrend she held several acting honors, ICC. To Present "Gong Show" The I.C.C. is planning to host a "Gong Show" here at Behrend. The date of the show is Tuesday, Aprill, in 8101. This event will be a first for the I.C.C. if it is suc- "for providing Behrend College with more than 25 years of ad ministrative leadership which brought Behrend from a narrowly focused two-year cam pus to its . present stature as a quality college of the university." When Kochel came to Behrend in June. 1954, the 425-acre cam pus, once the Glenhill Farm estate of the Ernst Behrend (founder of Hammermill Paper Co.) family, consisted primarily of the original buildings on the estate. Today the college, still using those handsome and rustic looking structures, proudly displays seven administrative and academic buildings, three dormitories housing 600 studen ts, and a picnic pavilion. The serene, hilly.grounds nclude an outdoor spring-fed heated swim ming pool, tennis courts, ar chery ranges, baseball and soc cer fields, ski tow, hiking and cross-country skiing trails. In the Fall of 1973, the same year that Behrend marked its fir st quarter century, Kochel was honored by the Behrend Advisory ting will start Saturday on the Youghiogeny River. When transferring "down state" Becky was the first transfer student to be accepted in the University Resident Theatre Company therefore competing against graduate students for cessful. Paul Bailey head of the 1.C.C., is hoping for 15 acts. There are presently about half that number. He plans on having the show put on live over the S.I.S. screens that evening. But if there aren't enough acts he feels that it would not be worthwhile. Under Kochel Behrend has grown from a branch campus of about 200 students to a four-year college of neearly 200 students. where graduates receive four year baccalaureate degrees in a variety of majors as well as two year associate degrees.
