Robert Rose, Professor of Military Science for the Army ROTC unit at Penn State University recalled. "Today we have 843 students. Things are different. We have a very suc cessful program." Part of that success, according to Col. Rase, is due to changes in ROTC itself. In order to meet the needs of today's total Army; which includes Active and Reserve Components, ROTC! changed to meet the needs of today's students. As a result, some Military Science courses are so popular that many students who are not enrolled in Army ROTC still elect to take the Military Science classes. It gives us a chance to evaluate the interest and ability of the student to find out if he or she has what it takes to make it in Army ROTC and continue on in the Advanced Course." There is no military obligation during the Basic Course and a student may ' withdraw at anytime up to the end of the second year..
