Virginia Beach
The Bio-Club's trip to Virginia
Beach on the weekend of October
5-7, was, according to those who
attended, "exciting and simply
great." The group stayed at the
Virginia Institute of Marine
Science.
The Virginia Beach tem
peratures averaged in the high
60's and low 70's the entire
weekend. This made for an ideal
camping situation. At 2:30
Saturday morning tents were
pitched and the weekend began.
After breakfast, they collected
invertebrates from the swam
plands of this area. Group
members continued their search
into the afternoon along the
shores of the Chesapeake Bay.
That evening, another
collecting spree was launched.
This time it was along Virginia
Beach itself. Few would find it
easy to collect Ghost Crabs at
11:30 at night. But the Bio-Club
had the desire and enthusiasm.
Later on that night, they broke
camp and moved to another
campground. Sunday morning
they began their trek home.
The ride back differed from the
ordinary. Not knowing what
festivities were being held in
Washington, D. C., they stopped
there wishing only to catch some
historical sights. Instead, within
five minutes of their arrival in
the Capital they found them
selves amidst a throng of
thousands of anxious people
waiting for Pope John Paul ll's
appearance. Some bystanders
had planned weeks in advance for
