Page Two Well it has finally arrived, that warm blanket of “forgetful snow’’ which has again covered the earth of Erieland. Winter is my favoriteseason, not because I enjoy the bleak cold, but rather because the snow covers and hides the dead plants that have finished their lifespans and allows their rebirthfin the spring, although deep down inside we all fear rebirth. Nonetheless, it is ingenious the way in which mother nature covers her dead and dying at the end of the summer and fall. Winter is a time to reflect on From The Desk Off The Editor As the new term rolls along, I find myself stuck in a rut. Therefore, my article will not be its usual free flowing prose, but instead, bits and pieces of whatever. Last weekend while the snow was coming down very hard and while the sun set, rose, and set once more, something quite extraordinary was taking place. This, as you might already know, was the Muscular Dystrophy Association dance marathon planned by the Lambda Sigma Society. It was one of the best planned, best organized, and best supported-events I’ve seen on campus. It was good to see an activity of this caliber sponsored by an organization other than the Holidays Q _ Holidays £^^ 3 ff £jj Holidays m Happy f Holidays m From The Happy Hohdsys 4 m H*ppy* Holidays 4 3; Hippy Holidays 4 25 Hippy Holidays Hiper Holers HoSjdays As I See It by Kurt Cavano Executive Editor your actions of. the previous year, to pass judgment, and to set a course for the upcoming. It’s a time to sit in front of the fire (if you don’t fear getting burned) and play chess with your favorite person. It’s a time to go sled riding, if you still find it fun, now that you’re old, or at least time is old. In the winter I find solitude in the masses, dodging their bodies in muffled silence. I am alone, maneuvering my skiis skillfully, carefully, avoiding contact with other bodies or minds if there are any present. Allowing the steam By Dave Jordan Editor-In-Chief usual activity maker. In my last editorial, I said that the tuition had gone up for this term. That was a mistake on my part, but I feel certain saying that you can expect to have to start digging deeper into your pockets awfully soon. Many will agree with me when I say that the snow is a pretty sight, however not when your car is completely buried in it. Thanks maintenance for plowing the parking lots; at last. I’m sure all the dorm students are familiar with the new exercise program where we are responsible for taking the garbage out to the dumpster instead of the usual maid service. Abilities developed ex tensively, out of necessity by one who was forced to deal with mediocrity, on a continual basis. Winter, how appropriate I must spent it here, with snow muffling Behrend’s empty voices. Tis a shame though there are no fireplaces, and but a few chess players for that matter. Such self-inflicted grief, what a waste. Be thankful for the snow but I loathe the coming of the spring. What’s next? Perhaps washing our own dishes at Dobbins? The SUB has three positions open for any interested students. The positions are chairpersons of the following committees: Publicity, Coffeehouse, and Hospitality. Anyone interested in applying can pick up an ap plication at the RUB desk. On behalf of the Hockey team, I would like to thank Major Harry Small for becoming the coach of the team. See Santa Saturday night at the dance being held in the com muter cafeteria. There will be a live band, a good time for all, and of course, Santa. To quote one of my favorite pigs, “That’s all folks.” Question: Only Mrs. T. Knows For Sure!!! Behrend Collegian Dear Editor, I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the members of the Lambda Sigma organization on the outstanding job they did with - their 3lFhour Muscular Dystrophy Danceathon last weekend. It was very obvious that an enormous amount of planning and preparation went into the Danceathon, and all those who participated - the dancers, and those members of Lambda Sigma and the local MD chapter who were involved - should be commended for a fantastic job well done. You showed just how united and successful a group of people can be when they really believe in what they’re doing. I’m very proud of all of you. Again, congratulations. Lynn Maurer Area Coordinator Niagara Hall Dear Editor, Those who braved the snow and came to last night’s basketball game in Erie Hall witnessed the best of what intercollegiate athletics has to offer. If you weren’t there, you missed something special. An exciting, explosive Behrend College basketball team defeated a good Allegheny team, 81-75. The game might well have been lost except for the vociferous support given by a highly partisan student cheering section. The pepband led by Davis Giersch, and the cheerleaders were also positive contributors. The fact that WQLN was there to televise the proceedings for the entire Erie area made it all the more enjoyable. Roger Sweeting Athletic Director Dear Editor, Our problems with Housing must stop now. The typically unappetizing Dobbins meals and run-down dorm conditions cannot be tolerated. We will not get changes, however, unless we change our battle plans. Mrs. T. is being attacked and told to clear up all of the problems by herself. We. need organization and good ideas. Support the JRC. Tell them your complaints and let it work for and with us. Let’s decide which problems are the most important, come up with some reasonable solutions, and talk them over with someone who will listen.
