Page 2 Editors Note Regarding the statement at tributed to Dave Works, in a Let ter to the Editor appearing in our last issue; in no way does the quoted statement reflect Mr. Dear Editor: The Student Union Board and the Joint Residence Council would like to use this space to publicly thank Dr. Roger Sweeting for the high degree of cooperation that he showed toward us on the Monday night concert that we jointly sponsored. We are sympathetic to the fact that rescheduling two women’s intramural basketball games would probably be difficult. We understand that even though it worked before, the basketball.net probably won’t raise. We can appreciate all these problems, and despite all of the com plications the concert was well received and enjoyed by the students. By the way, we heard a rumor that if you talk real nice, say your prayers every night and be real good to the audio visual depart ment, there may be a pair of spotlights in your stocking come TH*E BB4REND COLLEGE Oo» v ftaff€*» Parking Are you planning to bring a car with you when you move to University Park next year? Particularly if you plan'on living in an apartment in town, you had better consider these facts before deciding. Parking spaces at most area apartment buildings are scarce, especially late at night and on football weekends. Apartment buildings in residential zones must provide 1.15 parking spaces per apartment, while downtown and commercial zones are required to provide two spaces per unit. An example of the problem developing from this situation is Parkway Plaza apartments who have about 1200 residents and only 450 spaces. They have had to limit parking to one space per apartment. There are few side streets on which to park and "TfcStfffc vu. -re** .+ Aih*iK> i^fl i***4 jt.'K /*•& L—xi- Letters varying viewpoints Work's opinion, The Collegian now realizes that printing the letter was an error, and apologizes to anyone of fended or inconvenienced by it. Christmas morn. The SUB & JRC Dear Editor: Upon the unanimous request of the students classified as off campus, non-resident students I present you with a song written by myself. Actually, it is a recent tune put out by Chicago titled, “Another Rainy Day in New York City”. The lyrics were drastically changed to describe the present attitudes of these students mentioned above. I can still be sung to the original music of the song, which is found on the Chicago Ten Album. A few words in the song must be defined so that everyone can understand the meanings. 1) Stairway Patients - in a lot of off campus apartment complexes there are patients living in the complex that are under the jurisdiction of Stairways, which is best described as a half-way Cu+ i+J V\ off U.P. Parkway Plaza is far from downtown public lots. In most apartments there are more than one person per unit and if more than one of them has a car a definite problem result. Most apartment buildings either charge for parking stickers, or include the cost of parking in the rent. Where stickers are required, the management can and does often ticket cars parked in the lots without stickers. The Organization for Town Independent Students (OTIS) and USG Legal Affairs have received complaints from students who received $25 tickets issued by their apartment managers. But as long as it is specified in their lease that stickers are required for parking, this is a legal practice by management. fßiOAid. 56 flL* JO 1? htftvdLs /}f*4 4j i**? 1 1~ A ~ Behrend Collegian house. 2) G.T.E. - if you don’t already know, this is the local phone company known as General Telephone of Erie. 3) Robert Lamm - keyboards and vocalist for Chicago who originally wrote the song. 4) Lint-Ciccone Enterprise Music - organization that took the extra time to help me publish the song and finalize the lyrics. And nothing I can do. The dorm and all their beer And Stairway patients here Another snowy day in dreary Erie. Why must we have onslaughts of papers in our mailboxes? In case no one has heard, America’s resources aren’t infinite. Paper is made from trees, a costly commodity. Why not one large sign, poster, etc.*, in a central location instead of overkill advertisement that gets scattered on the floor of the RUB? A Concerned Student (Name Withheld) . I’m not going to make a case against winter because it does have its good points, but the bad points like cold, snow and wetness seem to outweigh Peek Peak and hot-buttered rum. I do have one thing to say for that big man in the sky, it appears that he has completely baffled the main tenance department by his periodic onslaught of that white fluffy snow. The maintenance department’s inability to cope with the snow removal-problem in the parking area has intensified an already acute commuter parking situation. The commuter parking spaces, which in good weather can only accommodate 50 percent of the total number of commuter cars, are further reduced by inadequate plowing. At least when the weather is good you can —The Collegian is in search of a new editor-in chief for the remainder of winter term. —lf interested, send a written application to the Student Affairs Advisory Committee, c-o chairman Wayne Hemberger, by The editorials appearing in thi: newspaper will be opinionated and therefore subject to criticism. In the winter it’s slightly rougher because when you get your car on top of those snowbanks, it’s tough to get it off. If you happen to hit the jackpot and stumble into a parking space you’re not as lucky as you thought. While you’re in the RUB cafeteria eating lunch, the maintenance department may be plowing your car under with snow. With the situation being as it is there doesn’t appear to be any remedies in the near future. Either more spaces have to be provided or the spaces that already exist must be properly maintained. Based on -main tenance’s previous score card, however, I personally don’t see any change in sight for the near future. So, if you do get hung up, the maintenance department’s extension is 288. Give them a call, I’m sure they’d love to give you a hand.
