At last meetings
By Janet Mazur
Collegian Staff Writer ,
At 7:40 on Monday evening, a
meeting of the SGA was called to
order by President Mike Woods.
Attendance- was taken by Bill
Dale, and the treasurer's report
was given. Because of Secretary
Michele Harding's absence,
minutes of the previous meeting
were unavailable. At Mike
Wood's request. treasurer Joann
Bruno temporarily agreed to
assume the duties of secretary.
After a bit of discussion, it was
decided who would run the SGA
elections on Wednesday and
Thursday, which will be held in
the RUB directly across from the
GSA suite, as well as in Dobbins
Hall.

The possibility of arranging a
lecture by Dean Lane on the
history of universities, sometime
in early May was mentioned,
though no "official plans were
made.
The main objective of this
meeting was to gain approval of
the .constitutional revisions.
Basically these consisted of:
—Eliminating the office of 2nd
vice president, and incorporating
the 2nd vice president's duties
into that of the Ist vice president.
—Expanding the number of
student representatives to
correspond with the increasing
student body.
—Having six at large
representatives, two commuter
representatives, and two dorm
representatives, bringing total
membership to 21.
—Changing all sexually
discriminatory terms within the
constitution, to neutral, non sexist
terms.
—Clearly stating the purposes
and duties of the office of SGA
secretary as they previously had
not been.
A motion was made by Mike
McCarthy that students should be
able to elect academic
representatives only within their
own academic divisions i.e. Arts
and Humanities, Social and
Behavioral Sciences. The
majority .approvei:l this motion
and it is now a part of the con
stitution.
An additional motion was
passed, which designates the
nursing program as an academic
division. Additionally the number
of nurses is expected to double in
the 76-77 school years. and
representation is necessary. On
this note, the meeting was ad
journed and shortly thereafter
the second meeting was called to
order. The reason for this is
because of a rule stipulating that
constitutional revisions must be
implemented over a series of
three meetings, to insure ac
curacy and complete approval.
The second meeting then
consisted primarily of the
thorough t of the constitution. The
meeting was then adjourned at
9:37.

Beer

Most people don't even know
beer can collecting exists. What
surprises most people who find
out it's for real is the seriousness
of the hobby. Beer can collectors
take their hobby very seriously.
When did beer can collecting
start? No one can really be sure.
We do -know that it can't be 41
years old because 1976 marks the

Beer can collecting has had a
rapid growth in the last six years.
since the start of the Beer Can
Collectors of America. This
organization started on April 15.
1970. when six men with a com
mon hobby got together in St.
Louis. Missouri. Since then
membership has grown to over
8.000. Other smaller clubs are
also coming into existence in
increasing numbers.
The first reaction of most
people looking a: beer can
collection is. "I didn't know so
many different cans existed." If a
beer can collector becomes
dedicated. it's not hard to collect
over 400 different kinds in the first
year. The number of different
cans ever produced is unknown
but the world's largest collection.
owned by John F. Ahrens of
Mount Laurel. N.J. John has
managed to collect over 10.000
different cans.
Another useful but interesting
fact is that the world's largest
display. which took 10 men and a
fork lift to construct. consisted of
169.344 full Black Label cans.
It's getting harder to collect
cans then it used to be. This
Bicentennial year will be at,
exception. though. as Breweries
come out with Bicentennial series
cans. The smaller breweries are
going out, of buiness and the
larger ones are getting stronger:
Budweiser and Schlitz alone
account for 77 per cent of all beer
sales.
