I'm glad I'm here so I can play what I want." So he opened his repetoire with Ladies Love Outlaw, a little risque, a little Rush. (Tom, that is)'. - His seemingly - effortless guitar strumming allowed us to become engrossed in the story he had to tell, and he had many; his dissatisfaction with a "big city" like State College was expressed in his own composition, The Bug Story can appropriate title). His jaded attitude toward the fan tasies, the non-realities of a corporal world was conveyed in Jackson Browne's These Days. And Child's Song, a scenario describing the touching scene of a child leaving home for the first time. dawned as a personal saga in the final stanza. Please Come to Boston (a Dave Loggins cut) is certainly a repetitious "jukebox tune", but also a plaintive and forlorn call to his love. Rande McNamee proclaims to be a folk-country-blues guitarist, but the continuing theme of his selection of songs tends towards blues in content. McNamee has something to say about our society in general lucky for us his medium is music. Perhaps Stop It I Love It illustrates the lamentation. "I don't really know what I want," he says, but to be sure, this forlorn cry does not imply ignorance of some of the more unpleasant realities of life. He reminds us of them by his songs, and somehow makes even death ( Revelation) appear less unpleasant. Following McNamee, we had the delightful expereince of the music by Allen Smith and Pam Verity, a duo whose expert harmonizing sounded better than some accomplished by mixing at a recording studio. During an old Box Tops number, we are told to imagine Pam as a 1950's bouf fanted "Rayettes" chorus girl, but some of the notes she hit could only remind me of the Beverly Sills debut at the Met, or Joplin in a sweet mood. Her fiddle blended nicely with Smith's guitar, with his banjo and harmonica, and their voices merging created a whole other instrument. They played everything from Dylan's Just Like A Rollin' Stone to a blue grass cut, Cripple Creek from John Denver's country to No. 1 Bd. Dq. No. 2 Bd. The double header with Duquesne on Thursday at Duqusne placed the team under some stress they'd never faced before. The umpire behind the plate was doing a poor job with the calls. In the words of Coach Stoner, "When a batter, or pitcher• enters a game, he visualizes the strike zone and adjusts himself accordingly. When the calls vary too much, the player is thrown way off, and almost doesn't know what to do." The first game went to Duquesne when the winning run was walked in making the final score 6-5. Later when the team had returned home, the Duquesne Coach called and informed that the unpire in question was not a member of the officials organization, had never taken the exam, and therefore was not qualified to umpire a college game: So, Behrend is credited with winning the game by forfeit. Aside from the umpire situation, the team did a good job, especially at the plate. Jim Davis hit a three run homer in the ninth inning of the first game. In the second the batters pushed the score up to a comfortable 7-0 lead in the top of the third inning. After allowing five runs, pitcher Myles johns held them to no more runs for the rest of the game to be the this trip, sign up at the RUB desk immediately. You must pay for the trip when signing up. Many people left Las Vegas night also sponsored by the SUB last Saturday, very happy after winning tremendous sums of play money and fantastic prizes. Some of the auctioned prizes were: posters, tennis racket, radios, popcorn popper, clothing, and assorted smaller items. It was reported that one player had accumulated over $400,000. The game was mostly dominated by the Cubs who had 10 earned runs to the Duke's 4. On Saturday, the Behrend nine traveled to Geneva to play two games, and won both of them, 13- 11 in the first game and 8-7 in the second. Coach Stoner said, "Our pitching gave us some trouble in these games: we get a good lead early in the game, and then lose it quickly, forcing us to play under pressure. We were out-hit for the first time this season, and had thirteen walks." However, the overall picture is very good for Behrend baseball, and all other sports too. Coach Stoner said, "For the first time since we've been a four-year school, we have the potential of having a 500 record in all sports. I've talked to the other coaches and they also feel that we have also some of the best athletes playing this year that we've ever had." The baseball team's record is 7- 1 now; last year they won only seven games total. Coach Stoner feels that chances are excellent of having the first successful season since becoming a four-year college. The team will meet Alliance at home this afternoon for a two game contest. Saturday they will travel to Grove City to play what Coach Stoner feels is one of the toughest teams that they will meet. Advising and pre registration for Summer term and Fall term (both Behrend and University Park) will be conducted May 1-14.
