Little green men here again
By Chuck Starfish
Well, the rumors are again
flying that the little green 'crit
ters' made another appearance at
Behrend.
The truth is that Mr. Stanton
Friedman, nuclear physicist and
ufologist, gave his second lecture
in Erie Hall last Wednesday.
Talking to a large crowd
containing all ages, Mr. Fried
man explained why he believes
that earth is being visited and
investigated by extraterrestial
beings, feasibility of space travel
by humans, and the secrecy
concerning the UFO issue.
Mr. Friedman spoke for two
hours to a very receptive
audience. He carefully and
methodically showed how such
official reports as the • Condon
Report and Project Blue Book
have ignored evidence or slanted
it to fit the official position. It
seems as if our friends in the
Defense Department think it best
that we ddn't find out the real
truth.
In the lecture itself, one of the
most interesting ca'ses was the
incidence in New Hampshire
involving the Barney Hills. It is
reported that while driving home
from Canada, this couple was
captured and experimented upon
by "critters"—as Mr. Friedman
jokingly calls them. Numerous
psychological tests seemed to
confirm their study. Mrs. Hill
was able to recreate a "map" of
certain stars that she said she
saw in the spaceship. After some
time, an astronomer in California
was able to fit the map on a three
dimensional model of the
universe and show how the stars
on the map were ones that
scientists believed are able to
sustain life. Mr. Friedman thinks
that this is a map of interstellar
trade routs. This case is still
unsolved at this time. The
complete story is told in the Dec.
1973 edition of Astronomy
Magazine.
Bowling Tournament
The bowling team to represent
Behrend at the annual Penn State
University Inter-campus tour
nament has been decided. The
intramural champion team of
Zelda 111 was defeated by a team
of independent students. The roll
off was held last Saturday at
Eastway Lanes.
The team to go on to Dußois,
Pa. for the tourney is comprised
.of Leon Daniels, Tim Slaven,
Craig Stone, Joe Warick, and
Steve Felege. Their scores were
impressive, and should give us a
good shot at some honors among
the other PSU campuses.

Another highlight of his lecture
was the case of the fourteen year
old boy who reportedly saw an
actual flying saucer on his farm
in lowa. The disc was also seen by
police, the boy's parents, and
other members of the com
munity. On the spot where the
saucer landed was left a round,
brown spot. The soil glowed for a
number of nights thereafter. The
boy's mother put her hand on the
spot and had a numbness for two
weeks. Samples of the soil were
examined and it was found that it
had qualities not found in lowa, or
any soil.
In the lecture, Mr. Friedman
showed how official reports are
slanted. Project Blue Book
reported that 97 per cent of
sightings are identified and the
other 3 per cent probably could
be. Mr. Friedman, however,
divides up the reports into four
categories, according to the
witnesses. They are either ex
cellent, good, doubtful, or poor.
Of the excellent witnesses, an
amazing 93 per cent are
unidentified.
Mr. Friedman's background is
quite impressive. He holds
Bachelors and Masters degrees
from the University of Chicago,
plus fourteen years of actual
experience with nuclear aircraft,
nuclear powerplants, and fusion
and fission engines. He has
worked for Westinghouse,
General Electric, and three
nuclear engine companies.
He.is a member of a number of
organizations, including the
prestigious American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronaunts.
Currently, he is the director• of the
California UFO Research
Institute. He has published and
presented many articles and has
given lectures in 44 states and
Canada. In 1968, he •was one of
twelve scientists on the Scientific
Symposium of UFO's, held by the
U.S. Congress. Mr. Friedman has
appeared on the NBC
Whether or not they go is

documentary "UFO's: Do You
Believe?". At the present,
however, Mr. Friedman is a full
tithe lecturer contributing all of
his energies to ufology.
Mr. Friedman pointed out that
most sightings probably never
get reported. Reasons such as the
fear, or the ego won't allow
people to report their cases. In
our audience, 33 people believed
that they have seen flying
saucers, but only a handful were
bold enough to report it. He
strongly urged that if anyone
would see one, that he should
write down all the information he
observed, such as the time, place,
shape, ascent, and speed. 'They
should also contact Mr. Fried

Pa. Court Decision Effects Women
By Cindy Conover
On March 19, 1975, the Pa.
Supreme Court issued a land
mark decision in a 5-2 vote: No
longer could separate female and
male teams exist. No longer
could separate leagues exist.
This decision was received with
mixed reactions. Most girls in
volved in athletic programs are
not especially pleased. Many feel
this decision has struck a severe
blow into women's sports. It took

Magazine, (a supplement to the
Erie Times-News Sunday paper)
women have 23 per cent more fat,
thereby `longer endurance. Men
do have more muscle, thus the
ability to exert more strength in
sports. A spike executed by a
man displays more power than
one performed by his female
teammate. Shuffling under the
basket for a rebound places brute
strength side by side. Can a 130 lb.
woman shove a 180 lb. man out of
the way for that ball?
Realistically, women can't
compete with men in scholastic
sports program. That element of
competition provides a motive
where man becomes animal and
winning is survival. This jungle is
no place for a lady.
