Speaking of the Nuremburg
trials, the Jam Session last
Thursday evening in the rec room
of Niagara Hall must have been
an especially harrowing ex
perience for a few aspiring young
musicians, who shall hereafter be
referred to as "The Defendants."
it all began innocently enough,
as local Behrendites began filing
into the basement recreation
room of Niagara Hall. The
alleged "Jam Session" took place
at roughly 9 pm at this location. I
will now attempt to recreate the
scene as accurately as I possibly
can. Chairs were neatly arranged
at strategic points along the
perimeter at the western end of
the room. We waited...ap
proximately one hour, as we had
reason to believe (from a huge
advertising campaign) that
several musicians would indeed
appear, and attempt to conduct a
cozy little (no less intimate)
"Jam Session" to...entertain us.
The Defendants on the docket
for the evening, and whose last
names shall remain undisclosed
(because I forgot them) were as
follows: Yvonne, with her ren
dition of "Grandma's Feather
Bed" by John Lrenver, was found
"guilty" of not being Barbra
Striesand. A cute little song and
very well done, I might add, but
nevertheless the audience,
hereafter to be referred to as
"The Jury" decided that justice
would not be served by taking into
consideration the fact that she
was an amateur. She was sen
tenced to receive bored looks and
be almost unapplauded to death.
The next case, that of Scott and
Co-Defendent Mike, was disposed
of in a like manner, after they
performed what I thought was a
beautiful musical and vocal
achievment in "The Sandman."
Again, being amateurs, was no
excuse. Gay took the stand next,
only to chastised by the un
compromising assemblage of her
peers. I thought her "Sentimental
Journey" was spectacular but

' The fourth act of the evening was
provided by Terry, whose
resonant vocal of "The Boxer"
did this particular number more
than its share of justice, but
received less applause then his
efforts deserved. Finally the Co-
Defendants, Joe and Errol, who
performed successfully, I think, a
very tricky piece of guitar work,
appealed to the gathering. They
were held in contempt.
The point that I'm trying to
make here is this: Why the people
who were doing the public
relations on this thing saw fit to
call this aborted concert a "Jam
Session," and lend this (by
definition) very informal kind of
affair such a formalized
presentation, is beyond me. It
was misleading to the people who
attended the affair, and sadly
enough, very intimidating for the
people who had to perform. The
audience naturally assumed that
this was to be something of a
concert from the clever and
promising way it was advertised,
and many, including myself, were
disappointed. Also, all the lights,
and the elaborate set up was
totally unnecessary. This in
dicates to me that we should.
never apply such pomp and cere
mony to something as informal
and low-key as a Jam Session, or
to at least call a concert
a concert. I love a good Jam
Session, and of course, a good
concert, but ne're the twain shall
meet. I realize this was not in
tentionally misleading. The
advertising people are guilty of
nothing more than over
exuberance. I hope they've
learned something from this. I
also think that many could have
been less neurotic about the
whole mix-up while the musicians
were performing. Just call a
spade a spade, and don't lose any
sleep about the trivial stuff. This
does not imply that this was the
universal attitude of the evening,
so those of you who responded
genuinely to your particular
favorites need feel no remorse
whatsoever.

Also, I would like to mention
that the Coffee House on Friday,

the extremely talented duo of
Doug Klein and Jerry Mack, was
a super-success. I can honestly
say that those of you who didn't
make it, really missed
something.
real man. She is tougher than
most, but even so, she likes to
have someone to lean on. She has
many of the qualities men look for
in a woman, but rarely find. She
doesn't nag or complain. She
takes people for what they are.
She has an abundance of down-to
earth common sense. She's
honest and sensuous. She's not
fussy or preoccupied.
When it comes to love, be good
to Taurus. He won't ask for much
in the way of fancy gestures and
wild promises. He's patient, af
fectionate, and emotionally
warm; all he asks is that you be
faithful and be there when he
needs you.

Note: This is the ninth in a
series of weekly articles.
The astrological sign of Taurus
is symbolized by the Bull. Ruled
by Venus, it carries with it the
love of beauty and sensuous
pleasures. A Taurean is not a
complicated person. He is not in
any hurry to live life; and he takes
things pretty much as they come.
Don't expect him to be very
articulate. Until you get to know
him better, he won't be especially
eager to bend your ears with
conversation of any kind. He
doesn't give off any kind of heady,
intellectual vibes. Neither does
he put on airs or try to impress
others. He remains pretty much
himself. And the case is likely to
be one of "what you see is what
you get."
His mind works in a pondering
methodical manner. Taurus may
not be as quick to catch on to
certain intellectual concepts as
others, but once he learns
something, he learns it well. I am
reminded of a brainy Aunt (a
Taurus) of whom my mother
once said: "Now Dorothy. . . .
Dorothy always was smart.
Anything she put her heart to, she
could learn."
The key word is "heart."
Scorpio has soul, but Taurus has
heart. And it is this which
often gives Taurus the deter
mination to withstand hardships
which would break others.
Some accuse Taurus of being
stubborn. It IS true that once he
makes up his mind about
something or someone, it is
difficult to sway him. If you
impress Taurus as being
unkind, inconsiderate, and im
polite, you will always be so with
him. It doesn't matter that you
were in a bad mood at the time.
With Taurus, first impression
nearly always counts.

A Taurus is a sensual creature.
He enjoys good music, good food,
fine art, and probably gardening.
He likes to touch. This is the
person who can't keep his hands
to himself when he is talking to
you. Often, he won't rely on
words, if touching says it better.
Upon seeing me a few days after
my mother had passed away, one
of my Taurus friends hugged me
and I will remember that gesture
as the warmest and - most
meaningful of many.
Taurus' sensual nature carries
over into his love life. He has a
wholesome, open attitude toward
sex. Intensely physical. He won't
quibble over what is right or
wrong. If he wants it, he will
usually get it, or more likely, it
will come to him. Taurus doesn't
chase.
The Taurus man takes his
time about love. He's not about
to rush into anything. Even
though he is not a wild
dreamer, he can manage his own
special brand of romanticism.
This man is true marriage
material. (If there were such a
thing.) The monotony of married
life doesn't bother him. Since
money is something he is quite
fond of, you'll • rarely lack
anything. He won't expect you to
be a slave around the house and
your sex life will probably be
pretty good. He won't neglect the
finer things in life, either. You'll
probably be taken to art
museums, the ballet, and con
certs.
