Coach Lauffer's crew scored
with 8:30 elapsed in the contest
and came right back again for
another goal less than four
minutes later. They then put the
game out of reach by booting
home two additional goals in, the
last seven minutes of the half, the
final one coming on a penalty
shot.
But if the Cubs thought they
had the game safety tucked
away, their second half per
formance certainly didn't in
dicate it. Although their offense
wasn't heard from again for the
rest of the afternoon, the defense
prevailed for the remainder of
the game. Well, almost. It seems
Behrend started their victory
celebration a bit prematurely as
Gannon finally snuck a goal in
with but 40 seconds left on the
clock.
In summing- up his team's
performance versus Gannon.
Coach Lauffer looked back on the
first half and pointed out. "That
was probably the best half of
soccer we've played all year. It
was a real fine team effort."
He was particularlyy pleased
with the sharp execution of the
offense. "We found that we were
able to move the ball on them.
They were over-shifting and we

were able to take advantage of
it. As for the defense the coach
noted that he is not surprised by
its exceptional play, relying on it
all along to be the strongpoint of
this year's team. It looked strong
on Wednesday. limiting Gannon to
13 shots. Behrend had 28 tries at
the net.
The reason that last second
goal came as somewhat of a
disappointment to the Cubs is
because, for the time being. it
dashed their hopes of tying a
Behrend single season record of
three shutouts.
But it proved to be nothing
more than a temporary delay, for
after Saturday's game with
Indiana, this year's squad had a
share of the record. The only
problem was that the Cubs
neglected to score, too, and when
the final whistle blew, the two
teams walked off the field with a
0-0 stalemate to show for their
efforts.
While Coach Lauffer felt his
team's offensive shos,Ving left
something to be desired, he once
more had high praise for the
defense, which again 'saved the
day against an aggressive
Indiana team. "They tested us:
they certainly did", he remarked.
"But when we needed the big
play, someone came up with it.
When a guy had to stick a foot in
or throw his body in the way to
break up a shot, it was done."

who turned back 15 Indiana shots.
"Mickey Brosius played. what I
feel, was the .best game of his
career here at Behrend." Coach
Lauffer surmised. His out
standing play of the contest came
when he deflected a hard shot
from six yards out, the ball
bouncing off his chest and over
the crossbar.
But the coach stressed time and
again that the success enjoyed
thus far has been the product of a
team effort. And he feels he has
an exceptional team. particularly
defensively. "This might be one
of the best defensive teams•we've
ever had. It just might be." The
mere total of seven goals that
they've allowed is their first six
games bears out that statement.
The injury situation which he

almost completely. with the
