Page Two Editorial Opinion This was undoubtedly the most difficult piece I have ever had to write. As most people know, Mom Tuttle, hostess at Perry Dorm for six years, died last week. I dislike trite and overly sentimental eulogizing and believe that few words are best. After working for a few days, I finally came up with these ten words: for Mom Tuttle she leaves us with warm memories we lose her reluctantly. 7 1 threnb (tollegiatt Pr tress litatuiriattun of Momnunuoraltly alsunpuots Editor-in-Chief Lynne Phillips Managing Editor Georgean Gaydosh Photographers: Michael Mark, Gary Stewart Business Manager: Bruce Piizini Circulation Manager: Jayne Switala Cartoonist: Jack King Staff: Sue Skiba, Debbie Ries, Bud Ore, Gary SchOnthaler, Jim Concelman, Lynn Alexander, Muriel Hykes, Leann Sherman, Gay Marie Catania, Dave Lojewski, Nancy Lindholm. After reading the letter, the staff became very disturbed at a few misinterpretations on the student's behalf. The editor of the paper per sonally called the author of the letter and explained how a few of the facts in her letter were twisted. She was very helpful and we straightened out the misin terpretations. Below is the letter from Jeannette Hirsch in com plete original form. The Collegian staff added their own response at the end of her letter. Dear Editor I would like to sound applause for a few of you who have ob viously been rather active in recent weeks. We are all familiar with the favorite trend in con versations at Behrend: com plaints. I am an excellent com plainer; I have complained about the food, about the lack of menus, about the parking and stop sign situation and so on, but one of my favorite gripes was about the library being closed on Saturday afternoons. I was enjoying squawking when the Collegian went broke for at least finally admitted it )...Ah, joy to the heart of the pessimist ! Behrend was going downhill fast. Then a funny thing happened. There were notices saying that the library was open, on a trial basis, Saturday afternoon. And the food at Dobbins started to improve. Others noticed it too. Not only that, but they actually posted a menu, not just at the top of the stairs in Dobbins, but in each dorm so you could decide ahead of time whether to eat or not. While I was busy marveling at these phenomena, someone stuck another copy of the Collegian into print, in time to explain that they'd finally decided to move the stop signs so you won't stop, skid and slide back down that little hill Applications For Editor-in-Chief of Collegian Available. Although I've heard since that there have been further modifications on this agreement, it indicated, good work just the same. This is acting like we haven't seen at Behrend for a while. To those involved, especially SGA, I would like to say thanks. We're behind you. Jeannette Hirsch P.S. A big thanks goes to the faculty too, they do their best to help us out. Explanation To begin our response, we would like to clear the air about the Collegian going broke. ("and at least finally admitting it")... The newspaper is having financial difficulties at the present time, mainly due to an inexperienced advertising and business staff, but as of yet, no word has been officially received that we are "broke." We are presently under the process of rearranging the business staff, until then, the Collegian will try its best to publish regularly. For those of you who wonder why the paper was not published the first week after Christmas vacation, it was due to lack of copy. We hear a lot of comments about the Collegian not publishing feature articles, poetry, etc., if you want to complain, it's your privilege. But at least one of the complainers could attempt to write an article. It's not a difficult task. Anyone on the staff will be willing to help you. It is again reprinted on page two of this issue. The Collegian staff regrets anv inconveniences and possible disadvantages caused by the misprinted information. The plans are still being discussed and as of now, still remain tentative. Also, many thanks to Ms. Hirsch for making an attempt to alleviate her feelings. She may have had a few errors, but she happens to be aware of what's happening at Behrend. How many other students can testify to that? Ripped-off Signs— Dear Editor People complain that spon sored activities are not publicized to the fullest extent. Believe me, they are! Individuals, including myself, put a lot of time and ef fort into making posters for such activities. Within two minutes after they are posted they arc either defaced or ripped down. I would like to know what is the pleasure that people get by doing this? Roslyn Monteverde
