Continued Academic Growth
SGA Proposes Campus Senate For Behrend
by Jim Benner
Staff Writer
Following its decision to deal
with the real politics of Behrend,
SGA embarked on the long trek to
get the workings of government in
motion. A number of proposals,
directly affecting the power and
finances of the campus, were
covered at a meeting held
Monday evening, Nov. 13:
Research is already being done
into the possibility of Behrend
convening a governing campus
senate. The proposal, in its early
state, provides for 60 percent
faculty representation with the
remaining 40 percent divided
evenly between students and
administration. I finally enacted,
this body would control the
running of Behrend campus, for
example, as regards to what-new
teachers are needed to continue
academic growth.
A committee was established
thereafter to do an intensive in
vestigation into the status of
money to be allocated for
Behrend. The committee will

Warner Bros.: “Bonnie and
Clyde” revives the Depression
ridden Southwest of the 1930’5. It
was the time when bank robber
Clyde Barrow and his cigar
smoking sweetheart Bonnie
Parker, held sheriffs and bank
tellers in terror and frequently
captured headlines with their
daring, reckless, and often
pointless crimes. The motion
picture stars Warren Beatty and
Faye Dunaway in the title roles.
The film was directed by Arthur
Penn and produced by Beatty.
Beatty and Penn first
collaborated on the deceptive and
allegorial decline of “Mickey
One”. However, it is their second
effort, “Bonnie and Clyde,” that
has become an undisputed
milestone in movie making.
Controversial enough to make
critics damn and then praise it,
and important enough to change
the entire intent and purpose of
filmmaking for years to come,
“Bonnie and Clyde” speaks of
innovation-the violence erupting
out of playfulness, the
lovemaking fulfilled by a sense of
impending death, the actual
presence of time and place, and
characterization.
Besides Beatty and Miss
Dunaway, the cast includes
Michael J. Pollard as C.W. Moss,
the driver for the Barrow gang;
Gene Hackman as Clyde’s
brother, Buck; Estelle Pawsons
as Buck’s wife, Blanche; Denver
Pyle as the sheriff who hunted
down Bonnie and Clyde in an
obscure wood in Arcadia, La., on

question locally-elected officials

at the standing budgets held for
the campus concerning the
library, Student Affairs, etc.
Problems seemingly originating
in Harrisburg held up money for
Penn State and thereby pushed
back plans for a new library and
academic complex for. this
campus. The committee will try
to discover what problems still
remain. It was noted that such a
study will take time but students
will be given a full disclosure of
the facts once the report is
completed.
Also, concerning the library, a
proposal was passed to give any
money to the library in excess of
the $l,OOO held in the SGA loan
fund at the end of each term. The
money hopefully can be used to
buy books and needed equipment.
The $l,OOO mark has been the
accepted safe-level and SGA has
never fallen below the mark. But
any money in excess coming
primarily from parking fines, will

hunters are finding the hunting a
little easier too. The big flights of
ducks and geese should be
arriving in the area very soon.
These flights usually consist of
the large rafts of diving ducks on
the Lake and plenty of small
flocks of mallards on the
beaverdams and swamps in the
county.
Remember that as of last week
the season is closed on doves,
rails, and gallinules. Next
Saturday is the last day for
turkeys outside of the primary
range. Next Monday no turkey
hunting is allowed in the primary
range due to the one day bear
season. The quantity of bear in
the state is droppin and I would
ask that you resist the temptation
to kill one of these impressive big
game animals. If the Game
Commission would close the
season for a couple of seasons the
quantity of bear would increase in
the state to a level that was
present in the late fifties and
early sixties.
There are plenty of deer in the
state this year and the hunting
prospects are at least as good as
they were last year. This is a
good time to scout around for a
good buck. If you prepare
yourself ahead of time by
knowing where the bucks feed,

increase tremendously. There
are bigger deer in Erie and
Crawford counties that in the
more mountainous counties, but
the hunting is much harder due to
a smaller number of deer. To
increase your chances of bagging
a good .buck this year scout
around while you are hunting
small game; maybe you will find
a good buck just outside of the
city.
There are still a high amount of
salmon andtrout left in the lake.
When the weather is good it might
be worthwhile to fish near the
mouths of the streams running
into the lake. This is also a great
time of year for walleye and
musky fishing. Some areas
locally are French Creek, Lake
Leßeouf, Edinboro Lake, and
Howard Eaton Res. The winter
trout season for trout in Lake
Pleasant will soon be here. This is
a very heavily stocked lake; both
trout and salmon'can be caught
using a variety of baits.
The country is still very
beautiful and a weekend drive
would be very relaxing. Toward
evening the deer are feeding in
open fields within sight of the
roads. There are ever increasing
numbers of ducks and other
migratory birds visible from the
Peninsula. Get out and enjoy the
outdoors this weekend.
