Behrend Baseball Team Remains in Slump
The Behrend pitching staff seems to be ineffectived against every enemy batter. The
team has been in a slump all season but hopes to pull out with a win against Jamestown
Community College.
Behrend Netters
Emerge Victorious
After losing their first match of
the year to Lorain 7-2 on the
opponent’s faulty courts,
Behrend came back to defeat
Lakeland C.C. 8-1. Behrend swept
singles and won first and third
doubles to come up with the final
tally. The team is now 7-1 with
three more tough matches to go.
Next Tuesday Ashtabula-Kent
Campus will come to play the
Cubs in our last home match at 1
p.m. The Cubs will then be on the
road for their remaining two
matches against Beaver Campus
(PSU) and Altoona Campus
(PSU), next Thursday and
Friday respectively.
For Behrend last Monday
against Lakeland it was
McPherson, Baker, Sherchik,
Lyons, Higgins, and Lopus.
scoring singles victories.
McPherson remained the only
undefeated player on the team
with a personal record of 8-0. The
next best records belong to Baker

and Sherchik with a 7-1 tally.
In the last match Behrend
showed a new victorious doubles
team. They consist of John Long
and Jay Kossler. Coach Lauffer
gave them a change at the action
when they narrowly defeated Bob
Hicks and Bob Baginski in intra
squad play. This shows again
some of the depth of Behrend’s
team and the reason it has been
successful this year.

The bumbling Behrend
baseball team dropped five
games over the past two weeks
while winning only three to send
their record skidding to a dismal
6-7.
The Cubs visited Niagara
Community College on April 29,
and dropped a double-header to
the New Yorkers 10-7 and 10-5.
The club racked Behrend pit
chers for 22 hits over the two
games.
They returned to the friendly
confines of the Behrend diamond
on Saturday, May 6 and clubbed
Dußois Campus 3-1 in the first
game of a twinbill and 12-4 in the
nightcap.
In the first game seven dif
ferent players hit safely for
Behrend. Ed Kush and Gary Ohm
each had an RBI for the Cubs.
Ohm struck out 8 and lacked only
one for the victory.
In the second game, the'Cubs
pounded the Dußois pitchers for
13 hits. Bobby Marks, Don Raydo,
Roger Nolan and Chris Gross
slammed two hits to lead the
Behrend attack. Chris Gross
drove in four runs and was the
winning pitcher in a fine per
formance.
New Kensington campus
stormed into town last Sunday
and squeezed out consecutive one
run victories 3-2 and 6-5.
In the openers, the Cubs outhit
the visitors 6 to 4 and hurler Tom
Wright turned in a fine per
formance by striking out 10 and
not walking a batter. However,
four big errors spelled doom for
the home team. Bobby Marks and
Gary Ohm were each two for
three in a losing cause.
Mark Lytle fanned 13, but

winning difference. The heavy
hitting left fielder also had 3 RBI.
Ed Kush was 3 for 3 while Jim
Greishober had 2 hits to aid the
Behrend 10 hit attack Tom Wright
whiffed 10 enemy batters and
pitched his way out of trouble
repeatedly to gain die victory.
Roger Nolan poked another 2

the year, to account for the Cubs
only runs as they were buried 12-
