Last month Father Pat invited two collegians from St. Mary's Seminary in Maryland, Jim Gutting and Mark Nowak, to spend a couple-of days on campus to ask some questions •about religion on Behrend Campus. The following is a report they com plied. Religion seems to be a word that has gotten lost in the academic and social cycle of events that provide the super structure around which any college campus is built today. When confronted with the question "Where is religion on Behrend Campus?", students responded in a surprisingly honest, consistent and open manner. .*KN: Within the answers there was a very definite rejection of any type of institutionalization of religion. Along with this rejection came the movement away from what they felt were the accretions of the institutions, Sunday Ser vices being among the highest of casualties. A type of personalism and American individualism has developed. While there was a willingness on the part of those questioned to talk about religion, the general opinion seemed to be that the topic was not really discussed that often or openly on campus and that the experience of it was never really shared. The general attitude was that it really didn't matter whether God mattered or not because man seemed to be doing fine on his own. Religion takes the form of a reflective humanism and moves away from any type of relationship with God. Religion is in the lives of the students as an ethical humanism, a stance for good moral acting, and although God falls somewhere between an atheistic and a Christian notion, there is a type of religion on Campus. Activity card penalty has been changed to a graduated fine for return starting at 50 cents.
