Page Two Editorial Opinion Collegian Faces Multi'-Problem ' The Behrend Collegian is currently facing a variety of problems. Most important of these is its continued existence. There is also the problem of whether or not the Collegian can remain financially solvent. There are several reasons why the Collegian is facing these dire straits. The principle reason is the lack of interest among the students of Behrend Campus, which also in cludes the staff of the Collegian. It would appear that many people at Behrend take the Collegian for granted. There has always been a newspaper every week, and there always will be. Many people are badly disillusioned. It is true that many students support the Collegian by reading it regularly and providing valuable information that is necessary for articles. However, it takes more than moral support to put out a newspaper weekly. The current staff of editors has been working at the same job for at least a year, and in the case of some per sonnal, more than a year. After such a lengthy duration it is quite easy to become saturated with the same weekly grind. For some, it is almost impossible to continue. A transfusion of new blood and spirit is required to revitalize the staff of the Collegian. Knowledge that the editorship of the student newspaper will be vacated Spring Term has been circulated weekly via notices in the paper, but response on the part of the student body has been nil. / It also takes funding to publish weekly the type of newspaper that many of the campus have come to expect and take for granted. When someone is told, however, the exact figure necessary to print the Collegian on a weekly basis, they are shocked. When the advertising staff is composed of solely one man, it becomes an inhumanly impossible task to bring in enough advertisments to cover the printing costs. The money that is alloted to the newspaper is not enough to cover the extra costs that are run up in daily operation, but not considered; things such as stamps, copy paper, and office equipment. If publication is to continue, the students of the Behrend Campus will have to decide if the newspaper is worthwhile, and necessary for the expression of Behrend thought. The editorials appearing in this or delete portions of all letters for newspaper will be opinionated publication purposes. and therefore subject to All letters must be signed, but criticism.
