Sports Reporter
Co-captain Ike Burnett, the
former Meadville High flash, has
been selected this week's
"Athlete of the Week" for hiss
inspiring play , against New
Kensington and McKeesport. Ike
tickled the twine for 47 points on
19, field goals and nine free
throws. He added twelve
rebounds and four assists to make
this week's work complete.
Ike was ineligible for the first
portion of the season and now that
he's returned to the line-up it has
become truly evident how much
he was missed. As one of the team
leaders and as a returning let
terman, Ike combines deter
mination and experience to give a
stabilizing effect upon the rest of
the squad.
Coach Roger Sweeting said of
Ike: "Ike is a ballplayer who has
been through the college
basketball experience before. He
knows what he can do, but more
important than that, he goes out
on the floor and does it."
As a starter on last year's
second place commonwealth
squad Ike was third high scorer
as he drilled the nets for 324
points. It would not surprise this
reporter if Ike surpassed that
mark in only half as many games.
It is with hustling play of the likes
of Ike Burnett that Coach
Sweeting looks for as the Cubs
pursue the Commonwealth
Campus Championship;
