Behrend Briefs Water polo wins fourth game The Behrend Lions picked up their fourth win of the season after defeating the Chatham Cougars on April 17. The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and took the advan tage to the second period. The Lions and the Cougars traded goals in the second period, sending the game to the third period with the Lions up by a score of 4-1. Behrend took over in the final two periods, scoring five unanswered goals. The Lions tallied two markers in the third pe riod and three in the fourth. The Cougars answered in the fourth, but it was too little too late. The Lions went on to win the game 6-4, and defeated Chatham for the second time this season. Stefania Pontillo led the way with three goals for Behrend, and Mary Ellen Spooner added two of her own. Game one featured a defensive struggle, but Behrend was vic torious by a score of 3-1. Senior pitcher Emma Hahn threw a complete game, giving up one run on three hits and recorded five strikeouts. Game two was dominated by Mt. Aloysius, who struck early and gave Behrend no chance. The Lions made some costly mis takes, and Mt. Aloysius was quick to take advantage. After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, Mt. Aloy sius added six runs in the third, stretching their lead to 10-0. Behrend managed to get two runs in the fourth inning, but Mt. Aloysius took game two by a score of 11-2. The Lions have lost three in a row since the doubleheader, with three conference matchups left in the regular season. The championship gives the Lions their third straight AMCC title and their fifth overall. Elliot Blackstone and Chris Galvin teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles title by a score of 8-3 over Altoona. Blackstone also won the No. 1 championship, defeating Frostburg State's Mike Stevenson by scores of 7-6 and 6-0. Blackstone finished the sea son undefeated in conference play. Shane Mosier and Peter Bissert nabbed the No. 2 doubles final by a score of 8-6. Mosier went on to win the No. 4 singles title, and Bissert went on to win the No. 5 singles title by scores of 6- 4 and 6-0. Along with the team championship, the Lions took six individ ual titles, including Blackstone's, Mosier's and Bissert's.
