Opinion OUR VOICE A thanks to Health and Wellness With Behrend receiving 2,500 doses of the HINI vaccine on Tuesday, the Health and Wellness Center needs to be recognized for their effort and success in pursuing the vaccinations. Specifically, Patty Pasky McMahon, Director of the Health and Wellness Center deserves recognition as well. She has been ex tremely persistent and the main driving force not only behind Behrend obtaining the vaccine, but has worked LaAialqA The fall of the Red Wings' dynasty The dynasty that the Red Wings established from 1996- 2008 seems to be crumbling away, and a new team may be waiting for them to fall and take their place From '96-'OB the Red Wings won four Stanley Cups and eight division champi onships, setting themselves on a throne above the rest of the NHL. A loss to the Pittsburgh Pen- guins in the 2009 Stanley Cup Final may have just been the beginning of the end for the mighty Red Wings. The Wings had won the Cup over a young, inexperienced Penguins team in 2008, and with game seven in their home (Joe Louis Arena) it seemed they would repeat as champi ons. The Pens had other plans, and brought down the Red Wings in a thrilling fashion, earning their place on Lord Stanley's cup. Even so, they're the Detroit Red Wings. It was a long series and they just as easily could Nave Your Say: Sam Wilkinson Biology "Yes. Her con stant determination was a significant reason Behrend will be administering vac cines on Wednesday and have won it. There's no way that Wings are in the midst of a downfall, right? Well, I've pieced some things together that may be evidence to the take down of the Wing dynasty. In a league where young talent are in the spotlight, the Red Wings have an average age of 30, with six players over the age of 35. The Penguins average team age is 28, with only two players over the age of 35. NICK BLAKE sports editor You might be thinking that a two year age difference isn't that much. MY VOICE Love & hate at PSB As an opinion writer, you're supposed to have a plethora of topics to write full length arti cles on with passionate opin ions. I'm a horrible, horrible per son. I'm not going to B.S. my way through an article on one topic, so I'm going to take the easy way out. I'm going to write about the things I love and hate here at Penn State Erie. Love: The class sizes. The biggest class I have had so far here at Penn State Erie is 140. That's not bad. At University Park, some of the more popular classes can have over 300 peo ple. That class has more people in it than Hell. (Hell, Michigan, has an unofficial population of 266 people.) Hate: Costs. I've talked about the parking passes here; we don't need to go down that road again. However, other costs that I complain about come with all collegiate experi ences - books, supplies, etc. College is proving to be expen sive. I think I have over 4,000 people that can confirm that with me. Love: The atmosphere. Is a mini-Penn State University Park. The scenery here is beau tiful, the buildings are nice, and the teachers are kind. There is not much to say other than that Penn State Behrend is a solid school. Hate: The events. Penn State Main offers a Jay-Z con cert and a packed house for a football game in one weekend. Penn State Behrend? A reading at the Smith Chapel? Don't get me wrong, living here does occasionally feel like Wis consin, but it used to be tolera ble because I could be proud of being a Brett Favre fan. As the two other Packers fans on campus know, Brett Favre meant more to the fans and people of Green Bay than any other sports figure ever meant to a city. I was crushed when he "retired" for the first time. My girl friend at the time nearly cried. But we both took sol ace that he had -h chosen such a classy, heartfelt way to end a legendary career in the NFL. Then it happened. He de cided that he wasn't done play- ing football. I was crushed all over again, but this time I was angry too. How could he decide that he wanted to play football for any other city besides the one that stuck with him through bad seasons, plentiful interceptions, and even pain Single copies of the Beacon are free and available at newsstands around campus. I realize that Erie isn't exactly a calling for big name stars, but c'mon. What is MC Hammer doing these days? We can do better! Love: Communications de gree. I have to take a moment to say why I love the Communi cations degree offered at Penn State Behrend. At Penn State Main, you have to choose something specific under the branch of Communications (print Journalism, advertising, public relations, etc). Here at Behrend, you get a little bit of everything in your degree. It's a broader degree, and can lead towards a variety of ways to go in a career. Hate: Phrases that teachers use. I have had several teach ers here at Behrend tell me that something is interesting. Not that they thought it was inter esting; they stated it like it was a fact. The topics these two teachers were talking about? Soil and communicational styles. Please. I find just about anything more interesting than soil. Don't tell me something is interesting; just say that you think it's interesting. If not, I'll probably end up losing interest in what you're discussing. Love: The people. There are a lot of friendly people here at Penn State Behrend. The teachers are kind and willing to help, and they legitimately care about students. Plus, as an added bonus, there are plenty of pretty ladies around campus. Hate: That these pretty ladies aren't after me. Hey, my list of positives reads like a gro cery list. I'm kind, funny, loyal, mellow, good-looking, and, of course, humble. Very, very humble. pill addiction? I watched in disbelief as he put on a jersey that was the wrong color green and stared in awe at the same jersey dis played in local sports stores. My only consolation was that Favre played pretty awfully as a New York Jet. He played so bad, in fact, that I thought this unfor tunate saga could finally be over, and things could go back to normal. Then it hap pened. The treason that would put Judas and Bene dict Arnold to shame. Brett Favre signed with the innesota Vikings. I could feel the entire state of Wiscon sin gnash their teeth in a uni versal state of cheese fueled rage. Favre and the Vikings beat the Packers twice this season, including once at home. I feel the familiar feeling of wanting Brett to come back one more year, but this time so the Pack ers can get one more chance to kick his geriatric ass.
