is your online source for cam
pus news.
Constantly updated with new
and breaking news stories, the
website will feature immediate
coverage of events as well as an
archive of past articles in the
Beacon.
We also offer a Twitter ac
counts which will be used to let
students know of breaking
news happening at the college:
notification of important events
about to begin, police reports at
the campus, or developments
not yet released to students by
the college.
The site also offers a RSS
feed, links to Erie resources,
and soon, Behrend students’
blogs.

volve them in this undertaking.
The Beacon is requesting that
students who write regularly
(at least two times per week) in
an online blog to send their
blog address to
editorfo psu.edu.
After a few days, your blog
may be added to a special sec
tion on the Beacon website
which will showcase student
writing online.
Don't have a blog, or don’t
write much online? Don’t worry
- it’s easy. Start by going to
www.wordpress.org and sign
ing up for an account. Mess
around with your blog, write a
few entries, and let us know

TOKYO-Japan’s unemploy
ment rate set a record as it in
creased to 5.7 percent in July
as 3,590,000 people were out
of a job. Compared to last
year’s statistics, the unemploy
ment has increased by over a
million.

2. Swine flu found
In turkeys in Chile
CHILE-The swine flu has
now been found in turkeys on
farms in Chile. According to
the UN, poultry farms else
where in the world could also
become infected. The swine
flu is no more severe than the
seasonal flu. The first incident
was reported last week by
Chilean authorities when two

OKLAHOMA CITY-Carol
Daniels, a 61-year-old pastor
was killed at an Oklahoma
church. Investigators are offer
ing a $lO,OOO reward in the
killing. Investigators found her
body inside the church around
noon on Sunday. District At
torney Bret Burns described
the scene as “horrific”. Jessica
Brown, a spokeswoman for
the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation, said the body
was “staged”

wheel. The man left the bus
and the wheel was unattended
Most students jumped out of
the bus as it rolled up a hill,
however two students were in
jured when the bus crashed.

7. Man bit off part
of police officer's
finger, sentenced
to 15 years
MAYS LANDING, N.J.-After a
man bit off part of a New Jer
sey police officer’s finger, he
was sentenced to 15 years be
hind bars. Rafael Richardo, a
thrity-year-old New York City
man, was convicted in May on
charges which included aggra
vated assalt, resisting arrest,
and making terroristic threats.
