A lack of interest with laboratory work and research led her to pursue psychology. Having initial presumptions that psychology did not conduct laboratory experimentation and research, she switched her major to psychology due to its involve ment with people and discovered that laboratory experiments and research were a significant aspect in the major. Her prior experience and skills with laboratory work only bene fited her advancement within this career, even though her ulterior motives for switching majors were driven by the gender stereo type that women have more skills in the area of communica tion and working with others. Blasco emphasized fixing these problematic attitudes by elimi nating gender stereotyping in grade school.
