Pittsburgh’s steel structure was rocked
Monday night in a hard hitting AFC North
battle. Division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers
and the Baltimore Ravens, put on a show that
won’t soon be forgotten in this NFL season.
After a rough loss to the Philadelphia
Eagles last week, the Steelers were looking to
rebound against the Ravens. Steelers’ quar
terback Ben Roethlisberger was sacked a
staggering nine times against the Eagles, so
protection was a big issue for Big Ben.
"[We've] got to give [the Eagles defense) a
lot of credit. They’re a very good team, very
good defense and they got after us." said

with nine goals and time of possesion in
the Lady Lions favor. In the second half
of play, there was much of the same
domination as the Lions controlled the
ball movement all over the field and
scored two minutes in.
A cross from Jaclyn Stottlemyer
found the head of Steinsdoerfer and the
back of the net which lead to the goal.
Also scoring in the second half was Elser

goals to finish out the game.
"Behrend is typically successful
against Mt. Aloysius. so it was not a sur
prise that we won." said Barbato after
the game. She then said that she was
impressed with how they kept up their
intensity level in spite of playing a weak

Roethlisberger after the 15-6 loss to the
Eagles
The Baltimore Ravens, like the Eagles,
have a very good defense, ranking first in the
NFL. They were going into the game unde
feated and they wanted to keep that statistic
true. "We just need to go in with our game
plan and stick to it. and I think everything else
will just take care of itself.” said Pro Bowl
linebacker Ray Lewis.
So with Roethlisberger's protection issues
and the Ravens angry defense, the stage was
The game was a defensive show down in
the first quarter of play. At the end of fifteen
minutes, the score was 3-3 and it appeared
that it would be a low scoring contest. By
halftime, it was 13-3 in favor of Baltimore
and the Steelers' offense was struggling.
"I was tired of being embarrassed on
offense. I told the guys that. There’s no need
for it. I had to make a statement." said
Roethlisberger. in response to yelling at his
offense.
The Ravens were in control at halftime and
the Steelers needed to make some big adjust
ments in the locker room.
The second half turned out to be more like
a second game. The Steelers were like a dif
ferent team. In the third quarter,
Roethlisberger hit Santonio Holmes across
the middle for a 38-yard touchdown pass. On
the Ravens' first offensive play after the
touchdown. Steelers' linebacker LaMarr
Woodley scooped up a fumble and returned in
for a touchdown. In about 15 seconds of
clock time, the Steelers were winning 17-13.
In the fourth quarter. Steelers' kicker Jeff

er team. She then finalized the conversa
tion saying, “it was a great game to kick
off conference play, while being long
overdue for a win too!"
Frisbee also added that, “the game was
an overall success since it allowed our
team to gain confidence in both the
attacking and defensive parts of the
game. With the injury of our starting
goalie earlier this season, this game
allowed Beth Lacy to step up and receive
her first shut out of the 2008 season.”
“As a team, we are very fortunate to
have two great goalies that can be count
ed on. This year is a great position to be
in since we are defending two year
Conference Champions, and it was a
great way to start the conference season
off with a win of 17-0.”

Reed hit a 19-yard field goal to make it 20-13.
The Ravens weren’t done yet, though. They
answered with a touchdown of their own,
tying the game at 20-20 to send it to overtime.
The Ravens won the coin toss and elected
to receive. They went three-and-out on their
first possession and were forced to punt. The
Steelers then moved the ball into Reed’s field
goal range for an opportunity to win the
game. Reed slipped a 46-yard kick inside the
right post giving the Steelers the 23-20 victo
ry.
“I tell you what, it’s always nice to know
that, pretty much, a kicker is going to win the
game. 1 got all of it, but I hooked it a little bit.
So I'm glad it snuck through,” said Reed
about his game winning kick.
The Ravens are learning from the loss and
are going to move on.
“It was disappointing. And, [we have] a lot
of great things to build off of, and we’re mov
ing forward,” said head coach John
Harbaugh.
Pittsburgh's win did come with a price.
With running back Willie Parker already side
lined. the Steelers lost two more running
backs. First round draft pick Rashard
Mendenhall fractured his shoulder and Carey
Davis suffered an ankle sprain. The Steelers
also lost guard Kendall Simmons to an
Achilles injury.
The Steelers and Ravens will play again
later in the season. Until then, it looks like
both teams are going to be tough to beat. Then
they do meet for the second time, expect it to
be another hard fought battle that may go
down to the wire again.

Although this game against Mt.
Aloysius may not have been the hardest
of the season for the Lions, the team was
very happy with their performance and
hope to continue to work hard to win the
AMCC Conference Championship for
the third year in a row. The focus this
weekend for the Blue and White will be
utilizing the outside defenders and for
wards. The Lady Lions are now 2-6-1 on
