"Most of our games are played at our opponents' fields, due to poor conditions of the Behrend Fields in the spring. We already have somewhat newer ‘home' jerseys, and our away jer seys look like something you would get at an eighth grade football practice." Kovalcik, also on the budget committee chair, said that throughout the years SGA has not funded uniforms and three years ago the lacrosse team asked for money to pay for the uniforms, but their request was denied at the time. “The whole point of SGA is to help clubs,” said Kovalcik. “We are going to try and fund as much as we can. Hopefully this will help clubs out who need it. It is not specifically to club sports, but mostly." SGA funding for uniforms will help club sports out, not only for this season, but also into the future. “If SGA will help us out and pay for them, then we can spend our club money on having home games on the Behrend Fields,” explained Helm. “It costs money to hire referees and buy equipment needed to host a game, and the more money we can use, the better the program we will have for future student athletes." New club uniforms will help the club financially and also increase the populari ty- “At Club Rush, men's lacrosse had a uniform on the sign up table, and over 10 people signed up simply because our home jersey's looked sweet." said Helm. "If we can match our home jerseys with new away uniforms, the team's morale will improve, causing person to person adver tisement about joining, and in turn will attract more fans to our games." 1 & 2 BEDROOM UNITS 22rad Annual Hprambee Dinner Let’s Pun together n n Octob * r m <rw _ wi mn lK| Taw- Ha Xgr*« n m «un ©lc-b l'd X iii 9 ‘Please RSVP by Oc Semi-Form DIOBf »IMB% 9pm mm 'JEW ■ K \ Students, staff upset over high By Allison Radov staff writer ifrs()2y (s'psu.edu Penn State Behrend students and staff are mad that they are paying twice as much for parking as other colleges in the area. Most students have a general idea about the price of parking and have very little positive thoughts towards the situation. Kimberly Boyce, a member of Behrend's sophomore class said, “it is not fair and no one is happy about it. I take the bus more than I drive to class. We can all complain, but most of us know nothing is going to change.” By comparison, students at Edinboro University pay $l5 a year for permitted parking, while according to Dr. Jean LEB no show Matthew Schwabenbauer college life editor mjss3B7(a' psu.edu Students wishing to see the LEB fea tured weekly movie Kitng Fit Panda were out of luck Thursday night, as the LEB was absent from the 9:00 p.m. showing of the film and no screening was held. By 9:30 p.m.. a group of about 12 students were still outside Reed 117. the scheduled location of the showing, some of whom had been waiting since before 9:00 p.m. There was no announcement by the LEB that the screening was cancelled, and no representatives of the organiza tion were available for comment. "Their office is closed and dark, nobody is there." said Earl Bass, a Biology major. "1 live off campus and came all the way back for the movie.” Kung Fu Panda is an animated film which features Jack Black as the voice of the main character. Set in ancient china, the film tells the story of Po (Black), a panda aspiring to become a Kung Fu master. Directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne, it was released in 2008 and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Kung Fu Panda is rated PG by the MPAA for sequences of martial arts action. According to the LEB. the film will he shown again Friday. September 26 at 10:00 p.m.. and Saturday. September 27 at 3:00 p.m. After that, no other show ings of Kitng Fit Panda will be held. In Wanted, a paper pushing office worker (McAvoy) finds out his father is a world-class assassin and that he possesses superhuman abil ities. The first screening is scheduled for Wednesday. October Ist at 9:00 p.m. in Reed 117. parking prices Jones, Professor of Communication at Edinboro, “faculty and staff do not pay for parking but, like most colleges, it’s difficult to find parking spaces." Edinboro University’s 2008 enrollment was 7,700. An Edinboro Police and Safety offi cial said, “it is because we do not want to make the kids pay for anything else." Behrend’s 2008 enrollment was over 4,500. However, Behrend does not have the exception that Edinboro claims to have. It is simply because of the type of schools we are. Edinboro is a state school, while Behrend is a branch school to University Park, which Behrend continuously borrows money from to help with parking and other college upkeeps. According to the Mercyhurst official website, the school’s 2008 enrollment Former Steeler running back Jerome Bettis will be speaking at the Junker Center on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008 was 3,080 students; it is 70 acre cam pus, with limited parking availability. A Mercyhurst college official stated, although vague in response, “students can pay $2OO a year for underground parking, but parking anywhere else on campus is free.” Officials also said, “The reason parking is more inexpen sive is because, since the tuition is high er than other local colleges, (students are paying $2,169 for a 3 credit course or $729 per credit), we don’t want the students to feel obligated to put all their money towards the college’s parking fee.” Behrend’s prices are still higher than the two other schools'. It is unlikely Behrend’s parking prices will change. Sophomore class member, Andrew Thompson, says, “The whole parking situation is just absurd.”
