Student Affairs seek
to repair staff

Faced with the task of replacing a sizable por
tion of their staff, the Residence Life coordinators
are turning to the Resident Assistant wait list to
fill open positions. This list is comprised of some
students who had completed the three-credit train
ing course, but did not secure a position. Due to
the size of last year’s class, the wait list will be
more than deep enough to replace those who were
let go, claims Miller.
“We are not rushing into the decision,” he says.

Whether or not the players of that team know
what they’re walking into is another story. While
Residence Life will introduce the replacement
RAs to their residents as soon as possible, a rocky
transition is inevitable for new employees. Like
RAs currently holding a position, the incoming
RAs will not be made aware of the circumstances
that led to their appointment.
Remaining RAs are also feeling the strain.
Some floors have been left completely devoid of
leadership, leaving it to other Resident Assistants
in the building to assume a surrogate position for
the affected students.
The entire process has left many residents feel
ing confused; however, the same could be said for
those expected to lead them.
“After this past week,” one RA said of the ten
sion throughout Residence Life, “we are all trying
to do exactly what they want us to.”
