NFL Buffalo vs. Cincinnati Seattle vs. Cleveland Indianapolis vs. NE NO vs. Jacksonville Minnesota vs. SD Arizona vs. Tampa Bay NYJ vs. Washington Denver vs. Detroit Green Bay vs. KC Tie-Breaker Pittsburgh vs. Baltimore NCAA Penn State vs. Purdue Oregon vs. Arizona St. Ohio St. vs. Wisconsin LSU vs. Alabama Rutgers vs. UCONN Totals: Steelers to face rivals in crucial game By Jess Carlson staff writer jleso I 84psu.edu Students at Penn State Behrend were up in arms last Sunday afternoon, when they real ized during their hangover buzz that the Steelers/Bengals game was not being broadcasted in Erie. In case you missed it or could not find it on the radio, the Steelers solidified their first place standing in the AFC North by defeating the last place Cincinnati Bengals 24-13. Next up are the Baltimore Ravens for a Monday night showdown at Heinz Field, starting at 8:30 p.m. Last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers went 0-2 against the Baltimore Ravens, with a total score between the two games of 58-7, (27-0 in Baltimore and 31-7 in Pittsburgh). The loss at Heinz Field was the only one in the last seven home games for the Steelers. The Ravens sacked quarterback Ben Roethlisberger 14 times, forced him to throw four interceptions, and held runningback Willie Parker to 51 yards in 23 carries. This season has been a different year for both teams. A win for the Steelers will keep them on top of the AFC North, however a loss to the Ravens will put both teams in first place at 5-3, and if the Cleveland Browns win on Sunday against Seattle, the AFC North could potentially have a three-way tie for first place. The Steelers are looking to perform much like Behrend Sports Briefs Men's soccer team advances to AMCC title game with win over Penn State Altoona The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team will play in the 2007 AMCC Championship after winning 1- 0 over Penn State Altoona on Wednesday afternoon on the Behrend Fields. The first half of the game was primarily dominated by Altoona, outshooting Behrend 10-6. Behrend's Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski Area) made eight saves in goal and Altoona's Brandon McQuillen made two stops. Behrend ended the scoreless tie, with a crucial goal from scoring machine Ahmad Salim, which ended up being the only goal of the game. No. 2 seeded Behrend squad finished the regular season with a 7-2 mark in conference play and are now 12-4-3 overall record. Behrend will be making its first appearance in the AMCC title game since claim ing the 2003 conference title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Women's soccer also advances to AMCC title game with win over La Roche The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team looks like title contenders, dropping No. 5 seeded La Roche 5-0. Ten minutes into the game, freshman Caitlyn Elser grabbed the first goal into the game. Beth Manganaro scored late in the first half to grab the 2-0 lead at the half. . . _ Junior Nikki Frisbee, freshman Caitlin Tschappat and freshman Kaitlin Schaefer added second period goals to end La Roche's season. Frisbee's goal marked her 12th of the season and moved her into a third place tie on the all-time goals scored list. Behrend outshot La Roche 20-6, and goalie Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) posted four saves as the Behrend defense logged its seventh shutout in the past nine contests. Behrend picks up its ninth win in 11 games and improves to 10-6-3 on the year after post ing an 8-0-1 record in regular season conference play. Chris And Arizona Arizona (+l3) (+4) Pitts. Roethlisberger threw 19-of-26 for 230 yards including two touchdowns and one interception. The numbers for Big Ben are almost opposite this season compared to last year when he threw 14 interceptions and seven touchdowns in seven games. This year, he has 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. Parker and Ravens' runningback Willis McGahee will have to bring their A-game to the field as Monday night will be a battle against the top two rushing defensive teams in the NFL. The number two Ravens have allowed 268 yards per game, while the number one Steelers defense have held their opponents to 258.9 yards. The Ravens are going to be fired up to win on Monday after a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago. A few key injured players also got the chance to rest during their bye last week. Of the injured players who will most likely be ready to play Monday are quarterback Steve McNair, who was out the last two games from a back injury, center Mike Flynn (knee injury), offen sive tackle Adam Terry (bad ankle), defensive end Trevor Pryce (broken wrist) and cornerback Chris McAlister (bad knee). Baltimore has won its last five games following a bye week; however they have lost their last three Monday night road games. Pittsburgh is undefeat ed at home this season so far and has an 11-game Monday night winning streak at home. ifl ) Muska Matt Tampa Tampa Alabama Super Bowl XLI.V will be decided this Sunday By Andrew McLachlan .sports editor 1,1115006(o psis Iu Can the Super Bowl champion he decided this Sunday in Indianapolis? Wait...what! Penn State Behrend has athlet ics? I always thought that they are the campus that didn't have the football team? Why is it that Behrend sports do not get the respect that they deserve? You can blame lack of coverage on TV or in the papers. but I look at the students who walk the campus each and everyday. There is a severe lack of fans in the sporting events that take place all year at Behrend. Year after year, teams from Penn State Behrend partici pate in spoils against teams around the area and mostly dominate the competition, leading to divi sion titles and NCAA tournament invites. Over the last decade Behrend's 21 combined men and women's athletic programs have produced 33 AMCC conference titles, as well as numerous NCAA and ECAC tournament appearances. Just last year, Behrend's volleyball squad experienced their first 29-win season and earned second place in the ECAC tournament. This season, the men and women's cross-country teams captured the AMCC conference title, domi nating the conference championship this past week end at Hilbert College. The men's team placed live runners within the top nine and the women's team placed an impressive six runners in the top ten. Both soccer teams are headed to this season's AMCC conference title match. Even Behrend's club teams are making a name for themselves. Behrend's club hockey team has reached the play offs the past two consccutiN c seasons and to reach their third in as many years. Going to the football games in State College arc tons of fun and is an experience that every college student should take part in, hut the sports that we have here in Erie are losing their fan base due to this. It is important to he proud of the sports teams that we have here and treat them like we would treat a football game. We should have tailgates before soccer or hockey games and cheer for our athletes to win big games. which apparently comes easy to us at Behrend. know that the Behrend fields lack large bleachers for seating and there have been rumors in the past of a brand new soccer facility to he built on cam pus. Even though the soccer teams would greatly appreciate a new field, would anyone still go to the game? Plus, you cannot blame the campus faculty for not letting the student body know when these games are. E-mails are sent everyday about upcoming games on and off campus that usually features free gifts, food, and beverages for Behrend students. Also, the Beacon staff tries its best to inform readers when games are coming up. We lack Behrend pride here and that needs to change. We have a beautiful campus with a great sports tradition. We have over -LOW students that go to Behrend. I have seen the crowds that went to major concerts and events on campus. We have the numbers to have some great crowds at the Junker Center, the Behrend Fields, and the local ice arenas. To have even a quarter of the student body go to a Behrend sporting event would be a blessing.
