A record-setting, sold-out crowd of 110,078 fans
packed into Beaver Stadium on Saturday night and wit
nessed No. 12 Penn State dismantle Notre Dame 31-10.
Surrounded by the very first all-stadium white-out in
Penn State history, senior wide receiver and co-captain
Terrell Golden described
the stadium as a blur of
white. Amid the intense
atmosphere the Nittany
Lions recorded their sec
ond victory of the young
season and in doing so
they were able to get

Led by their nationally
ranked defense, the
Nittany Lions were able
to manhandle the Irish
and their freshman quar
terback Jimmy Clausen,
getting payback for last
season's uneven 41-17
loss at South Bend. Penn
State held the young
quarterback to 144 yards
passing and one intercep
tion. Offensively, the vis
iting Fighting Irish were
held to nine first downs
and zero yards rushing on
26 carries. Penn State's
swarming defense
recorded six sacks for
minus 50 yards.
Ranked No. 1 in the nation in rushing defense, Penn
State has allowed an impenetrable minus 1.5 yards per
game so far this season. The Nittany Lions defense has
n't allowed an offensive touchdown yet this season and
in their first two games combined have given up a total
of only three points and 258 total yards.
Offensively, the Nittany Lions started off slow, turning
the ball over with an interception that was returned 73
yards for a score. Junior wide receiver Derrick Williams
brought the team back to life, however, returning a punt
78 yards for a touchdown with less than a minute left in
the first quarter. Williams' return, a beautiful balance of
speed and grace, was chosen as a nominee for ESPN's

Austin Scott recorded his fourth career 100-yard game,
handling a career high 28 carries for a career high 116
yards rushing and two touchdowns. Senior quarterback
Anthony Morelli completed 12 of 22 passes for 131
yards and one touchdown.
Nonetheless, it was the defense that took center stage
in the team's decisive victory. Fueled by the second
largest crowd in Beaver Stadium history, the defense
wrecked havoc on the young Irish offense, which were
whistled for a total of 14 offensive penalties. Against the
Irish, senior All-American and
team co-captain Dan Connor
thrived. Connor recorded a
game-high 12 tackles and has
been selected as the Walter
