Friday, September 29, 2006 Freshmen and upperclassmen senator and club representative candidates Manal Malik Zac I don’t think it takes a position on the SGA to make a difference on cam- pus. Anyone can go to events, support clubs and students, and get their voice heard. Regardless of whether or not I become a senator, I plan to continue being involved with stu- dents and organizations on campus. However, being a senator would help me take problems I might find directly to the SGA so they can be quickly heard and resolved. We are the stu- dent government associa tion, and it’s important we focus not just on clubs, but on all the students * Behrerttk'' - *'"' • Molly Thomas DELIA CH! I am a sophomore here at Behrend and I have found that I would like to get more involved in the student affairs that affect me and the rest of the college. I want to help make die important decisions on what to do with the funding that is allotted for student activities, to better represent the student population, and help voice their opin ions. If you elect me, I promise to do the best job possible in bring ing up any idea and making good decisions that will benefit the general population. Matchbox Players The Matchbox Players is Behrend’s only theatre organization. Every semester, we diligently work to provide on and off campus theatrical entertainment. We promote, encourage, and execute vari ous activities on a regular basis. Also, Matchbox contains a diverse group of students; we have members of different ethnicities and majors. Most important, we understand our responsibility on and off campus. Our activities and our behavior reflect upon ourselves and the campus, so we do our best to provide well coordinated, well performed, and well attended events. Anyone interested in writing for the Beacon News section, please contact Chris LaFuria at CSLsoos@psu.edu for more information. I am an international stu dent here, and I have been at an American school my whole life. I want to become a freshmen senator because I truly care for this school and want to make a difference. 1 am willing to work extra hours and get the voice of the Penn State stu dents out there. I am always willing to meet new people, hear new ideas, and most importantly, get down to work! I have many ideas about what we can do here, including a night called International Festival, Battle of the Bands, and many Mentz My name is Molly Thomas and 1 am running for freshman senator in SGA. In high school, I was involved with a variety of organizations, most of which, I helped with public ity and public relations. I am currently involved with the Lion Entertainment Board and I would love to continue promoting events and getting the student body involved in diverse activi- ties. On campus activities and networking with peers is so underestimated these days, but it really is a bene ficial part of the college experience and I want to do all that I can to support it here at Behrend. NEWS Michael Stephe <i ««“* ****** ip’ Ashley Bayuk At Penn State Shenango I was the SGA President and a member of THON. I want to be a part of SGA because for the last two years 1 have enjoyed being involved and making a difference in the campus community and would like to continue doing so. One thing that I have noticed that I think should be changed is the fact that there are no cameras in the parking lots and I have heard people complain about there care being hit and I think we should fix that problem if it is not already being looked into. Dante No Photo Available Asian Student Organization I’m Katherine Chen, the representative of ASO, we feel that we would like to promote Asian culture in this campus. ASO and SGA have had very good relations in the past. SGA affects the student body and we would like to have a voice there. Otherwise, as with many other organizations, we may run the risk of becoming isolated. Sometimes a problem is communication, to promote greater openness and understanding; we should increase the channels by which we can talk to each other. Therefore, please give me and the ASO a chance to be part of the SGA. n McLean My name is Mike I Mclean and I am running for freshman SGA senator. I have held many leader ship positions in the past during my high school career. This gives me the experience needed to best serve on SGA.I have many ideas on how to increase the quality of student life. I am going to try and attract outside businesses to Berhend and the surround ing area. By doing this iere will be more to do on ampus. Hopefully I will x the honor of serving SGA, and know if I am ;cted I will be dedicated the student community. .V »: ••<•. '•/<:-,-»<V v e Pnce Through out our lives, teachers and friends have told us that college years are the best years of our lives. But we still sit around say ing how bored we are. This could be because of several things, or maybe we just need more campus involve ment. Unless it is Wednesday or Saturday there is not much to do on campus at ten o’clock at night* So why not change this by having more to do at night and by voting for me, Danielle Price. I’ll try my best to make Penn State some of the best times of your life. Parking on Campus: Students are paying a lot to park on campus, and have no where convenient to pr Either we need more pi ing, or the price needs t< down. My first pri< would be to help impi this situation anyway I c: Seating in REDC: There are just not enoi tables to accommodate al. the students in the REDC lunch. Our mission as a club is to plan and execute activities, programs, and services to ben efit the student body. With movies four nights a week, and a band, comedian, or special event at least once a week, we need the student body's support to be successful, and put on the best entertainment possible. Through partnerships, we have worked with various clubs in the past, and in the future we are planning to do work collabora tively, with you, to make Behrend even better. By acquiring this position, 1 hope to further my understanding of how SGA works to help the lacrosse club throughout the year. Also, I will be able to keep the club updated on new policies and procedures by which SGA proceeds by. Lastly, I hope to give the club a voice in the student govern ment.
