By the time students walk to their vehicles and try to pull out, they are stuck in a commotion of traffic. Parking lots are backed up with students trying to pull out of every row. Others try to pull onto the main roads while waiting for a Good Samaritan to allow them to pull out. With all this commotion comes the fact that many of these students leaving are on their way to jobs. If there is a long backup of traffic, there is an issue with time. "Traffic does not help when you have to go to work or to an appointment, - Landon said. "We have other places to be and in the end speed to make it on time." "There are cars backed up beyond Police and Safety ever yday," said Chad Seidler, DUS 04. "Once you get past the stop sign, you have to wait at the lights near the new highway. It's not any faster than what it used to be." What can be done? In light of the fact that there have been new projects here on campus, a new road built toward the back area of Behrend is just one of many ideas "With a new entrance and exit road, traffic would become less congested and it would be quicker for students to get in and out of the lots," said Landon. Would adding a new road help? Or would prob lems still stay? Teresa Toro, COMBA 06, does not think traffic is that had, but she thinks a new road would make things easier. "You could pick which road to take depending on which side of cam pus you need to be on. - "I think a new road would just add more traffic, which is what we are trying to get away from," said Seidler. "Other drivers will drive through just to see the campus closer and then there will be argu ments about whether or not new lights or stop signs should be added." ENGINEERING... With five CAD labs, four electrical labs and a Senior Design lab room, the School of Engineer ing keeps the technology extremely current, updat ing systems and equipment every two to four years. "Our facilities are really strong, excellent, and very available," said Dr. Ralph Ford. professor of Elec trical and Computer Engineering. Also new is the Nanotechnology minor offered by the School of Science. "Many of our students from computer, electrical and software engineering will he interested in this minor," said Ford. There are also strong ties between the School of Engineering and School of Science. Many of the engineering students must take various physics, chemistry and math courses to complete their de gree requirements. "Behrend has a relatively young, relatively small engineering school with wonderful opportunities," said Lasher. "The students have really responded well to the environment. - MNO OM 111 IMO MMI NI NM NI Ell NM NB MI Friday, April 16, 2004 FROM PAGE ONE 4,;frn r#l, Now seeking the following for summer employment: ***LIFEGUARDS*** (will train) GUEST SERVICE PERSONNEL Dedicated Teleservices Representatives XlOO Per hour Sales Representatives 7.50 Justin Curry & Angela Szesciorka news editors Also- GIFT SHOP ATTENDANTS ARCADE ATTENDANTS GREETERS PARTY ATTENDANTS RESERVATION AGENTS Flexible hours are available.
