Lady Lions get first Jordan Center sellout
for women's basketball
Penn State women's basketball game vs. Michigan was offi
cially a sell out. It's the first time the Lady Lions played in front
of a sold-out Bryce Jordan Center. The capacity of the Bryce
Jord4;ter is 15,261, which makes the sellout the largest at
tendblfdelrgure for a women's basketball game in the Big Ten
Conference this year. The Lady Lions' old home attendance record
of 13,305 was set Jan. 18 vs. Illinois. The Lady Lions did sell out
once before when they played lowa on Feb. 6, 1994, at the then
-7,264-seat Rec Hall.
Five Nittany Lion football players invited
to NFL scouting combine
A quintet of Penn Staters have been invited to the National Foot
ball League's Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis.
Cornerback Rich Gardner, wide receiver Tony Johnson,
placekicker David Kimball, tight end Sean McHugh and line
backer Deryck Toles have been invited to participate in the Feb.
18-24 event at the RCA Dome. More than 300 players will be
involved in the combine. The NFL Draft is April 24-25. A school
record four Nittany Lions were chosen in the first round of the
2003 NFL Draft. Penn State was seventh nationally with 32 of
Coach Joe Paterno's former players on NFL rosters during the
2003 season.
Behrend holds second cheerleading
and dance competition
Penn State Behrend will hold its second annual Becky Hubler
Decker "Spirit Against Cancer" cheerleading and dance competi
tion Saturday at the Junker Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The
competition is open to all cheerleading and dance teams at
Behrend, as well as high school varsity and junior varsity, junior
high, and all-star levels. All proceeds raised will be donated to
the American Cancer Society in memory of Becky Hubler
Decker. For more information, contact Stacy Pondo in the Penn
State Behrend Athletic Office at 898-6240.
