Tau Kappa Epsilon will brave Lake Erie The brothers of Tau Kappa Ep silon are looking forward to a fun and productive spring semester. They will be participating in sev eral activities that will be both en tertaining and beneficial to chari table causes. On March 27, the brothers will hold their second annual "Ice Plunge" which benefits the Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's Foundation. The active chapter will be diving into the freezing waters of Lake Erie to raise money for this cause. During last year's event alone, the fraternity raised close to $3,000. This year, they plan on exceeding that fig ure and making the event bigger and better. It will be an-all day event with a variety of refresh ments included. Brothers will be Alpha Sigma Alpha This semester the sisters of Alpha Sigma Alpha are very excited to extend their sisterhood to new girls. From the beginning of January, the sisters have worked hard on recruitment. Rush parties, times for anyone to come and get to know the sisters, were planned. These included an "under the sea" theme where black lights were set up to decorate and give an ocean effect. The sisters also held a pajama party, where they all used their artistic skills to play Pictionary. Not wanting anyone to miss their favorite TV shows, the sisters also watched "Friends" on Thursday nights while doing arts and crafts. Each party is a new opportunity for friendship. This friendship is unique and can develop into sisterhood. Sisterhood has a special meaning for each individual girl. The opportunity for sisterhood exists for everyone. Along with the valued friendships developed throughout the years, the sisters of Alpha Sigma Alpha help the local community. On Feb. 3, the sisters held their annual Date Auction. Approximately $l,OOO was raised to benefit the S. June Smith Center and the Special Olympics. Later in the semester, the girls will sport a turtle costume and go to local elementary schools and read to classes. Between helping the community, Parents Weekend, and rush events, the brothers will be very active. This semester, STG will be do ing a clothing drive that benefits the Salvation Army. Brothers and students will be asked to donate clothes that they no longer wear. Parents Weekend will be held on March 20-21. A banquet din ner will be held at the Quaker Steak and Lube. Every year par ents turn out in full force to sup port their sons. This semester rush events con sisted of bowling and attending an Otters game. "I think our rush this semester went well," said Josh Kaylor, Sigma Tau Gamma executive commander and chief. "Lots of people participated and we all had a good time." STG participates in every intra mural event. Sometimes multiple STG teams play in an event. The brothers feel that this helps with their unity. "We don't care if we win, we're ie to raise money for Measuring formal). It will involve an all night camping trip and socializ ing with many of the chapter's alumni. LAMROF has proven to be a successful and noteworthy Theta Phi 1 ones or friends. Also look for just out to have fun," said Kaylor. At the end of February they will be selling magazine subscriptions to magazines such as Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, etc. This is a major fund-raiser that will benefit the new house fund. The STG formal will be held on April 17. During the formal, awards are given out to brothers who have excelled in the frater nity. "Our formal is always a good time. A lot ofAlumni and Sweet hearts come back for the ban quet," said Andy McNeil, STG Scholarship King. STG will be actively participat ing in Greek Fair. The brothers feel that Greek Fair is beneficial to the Behrend Community. "Greek Fair compiles the fun and excitement of Greek Week into one festive night," said McNeil. While all the brothers partici pate in fraternity events, they also excel as individuals. McNeil runs the Diehl adopt-a school program through the Smith Chapel. The Behrend students who participate are volunteers. The Behrend Beacon event each year, and it should be just as successful and fun this April. Finally, the brothers will collec tively be taking two trips to visit and meet TKE's from other chap ters. First, they will be visiting the Pi chapter at Penn State Uni versity Park. Then they will travel to Morgantown to meet the Rho chapter at West Virginia Univer sity. Both trips will be for the whole weekend and should be fun and beneficial for the active chap ter. Alph the sale of Krispie Kremes from the sisters This semester's recruitment has been quite sucessful. The sisters are ecstatic with our new pledge sisters, also known as Tau class. These girls truly ex press the many qualities which make a Theta Phi Alpha sister unique. We are excited to ex tend the Theta Phi Alpha fam ily to them. We encourage you to think about what you can bring to the sisterhood and con tact one of us if you are inter ested in becoming a part of the Theta Phi Alpha family. The Diehl students are tutored in all subjects. "It's a great opportunity to help underprivileged children," said McNeil. McNeil is always looking for new tutors. If interested please contact him at diehlschool@hotmail.com According to Kaylor and McNeil, sergeant at arms, Michael James On, recently traveled to Aspen, Colorado to compete at the Winter X Games Qualifier. On threw down an excellent run in slope style, stomping the infa mous cab 900. Orr narrowly missed moving on to the finals by three points. He placed eighth overall. "Orr can definitely throw down the slopes," said Kaylor, "He's definitely the best boarder at Behrend." Recently the brothers acquired their beloved mascot, Bowser, a mix of rottweiler and black Lab. Bowser plays an integral part of strengthening the bonds between man and dog.
