Power outage scheduled for e-mail server
On Feb. 21 from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., server email.psu.edu will
not accept transactions. This outage also affects those who use
Penn State Webmail. The change will not affect those who use
the server mail.psu.edu. The outage will be conducted by Uni
versity Park's Information Technology Services. The purpose is
to upgrade e-mail hardware and power supply.
Expo gives students chance to learn
latest hardware and software solutions
The Technology Council of Northwest Pennsylvania will hold
its first-ever NW Student Tech Expo. The event plans to show
students the latest hardware and software solutions, as well as dem
onstrating what technology is doing in the region. The expo fo
cuses on all areas of technological development.
Admission is free and open to students of all majors. The expo
is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 18 at the Waldron Center, Yehl
Ballroom at Gannon University.

Policy aims to free up network
for academic work
Earlier this month, the University modified computer and net
work security policy AD-20 to include a provision that prohibits
servers in University residence halls. The goal of this policy modi
fication is to ensure that residence hall networks are more avail
able to students for academic research and coursework. The policy
states that no servers are permitted on campus residence hall net
works except under a specific condition in which a faculty mem
ber provides a written request for a certain academic purpose and
receives approval from the vice provost for information technol
ogy.

Complaintant called to report they received a threatening e-mail
picture of a gun with a threatening message.
2/3/2004 3:22 a.m. Wilson Picnic Grove
Complainant reported that a friend was missing. Coordinator had
already been notified. Campus search found individual in the pic
nic grove. Individual was fine, and was transported to dorm.
