New ice cream to celebrate
Penn State's Sesquicentennial
The University Creamery will debut a new ice cream in July 2004 as part of a
yearlong series of events and celebrations commemorating Penn State's estab
lishment in 1855. What should the new flavor be called? Send name and flavor
suggestions to icecream@psu.edu or visit http://www.cas.psu.edu/icecrearn.html.
The winner will receive a complimentary half-gallon of University ice cream
during their next visit to Penn State, and a copy of the commemorative sesqui
centennial book to be published by the Penn State Press in 2005. Suggestions
must be received by Dec. 31.
Documentary on life and career of
Joe Paterno to air on ESPN
A one hour documentary, "The Season: Joe Paterno," on the life and career of
the legendary Penn State football coach will air on ESPN on today. The pro
gram will air at 7 p.m. and will re-air on Thursday at 4 p.m The ESPN-produced
documentary is part of ESPN's Original Entertainment programming. In his 38th
season as head coach and 54th year as a member of the Nittany Lions' coaching
staff, Patent() is widely regarded as one of the college football's greatest coaches.
The leader in career victories among major college coaches, Paterno owns a
338-103-3 record, a winning percentage of 76.4.
Margaret Cho next is distinguished
speakers in series at University Park
Margaret Cho, celebrated comedian and national bestseller, is the next speaker
in Penn State's 2003-2004 Distinguished Speakers Series at 8 p.m. on Oct. 20, in
Eisenhower Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are
required. Tickets will be available to students attending the University Park cam
pus on Oct. 13. Tickets will be available to faculty and staff and students from
other Penn State campuses on Monday. The general public may pick up any
remaining tickets beginning Tuesday, on a first-come, first-served basis. The
Eisenhower box office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Limited tickets might also
be available the night of the speech.
Fireside chat with new
Vice President for Student Affairs
Vicky Triponey, recently named vice president for Student Affairs of Penn
State University, will address students' concerns and questions from 7 to 8 p.m.
on Wednesday, in 302 HUB-Robeson Center. Lion Support, Penn State's student
helpline, is hosting the event, which is open to the public.
Ticket mini-packs feature games
for men's, women's basketball
Basketball fans have two new options to choose from in addition to the stan
dard season ticket packages for the 2003-04 Nittany Lion and Lady Lion basket
ball seasons. Special "mini-packs," designed for fans who cannot make it to
every game, are now available. The packages are ideal for the fan that prefers
weekend game as all but one of the games included in the two options are week
end contests. Each game featured in both the packages includes a premium give
away for the first 2,000 fans. Anyone buying a package will receive preferential
seating and will have the same seat for each game of the package that they
purchase.
