If bad weather does occur, which is quite normal here in Erie, the decision to hold classes must be made by 6:30 a.m. Last year the college did not have to close for weather, but in case it does this year students have a variety of ways to find out Computer training for students changes In previous years, seminars were a very effective means for providing training to a large number of students. However, as students became more knowledge able about PC software, seminar attendance steadily declined. The computer center began to look for a more effective way to provide training to students that would be timely, flexible, and address the students' learning needs throughout their college career. After considering several options, the center decided to team up with the Learning Resource Center. In collaboration with Ruth Pflueger, director of the Learning Resource Center, a different approach for student training was devel oped. Effective this spring semester, the Computer Center will no longer offer general-purpose seminars to students. Instead, the Learning Resource Center will provide one-on-one tutoring to students who need assistance with Microsoft Office, Front Page, and Web Mail. Students can contact the center at x 6140 to arrange an appointment. The Computer Center will continue to provide group training to a class if requested by faculty. To request training for a class, faculty needs to complete the Computer Resource Requirement Form or contact the Computer Center at least three weeks in advance to make arrangements. Studetns also have the opportunity of learning computer topics by using the tutorials in the Computer Center labs or by using the Web-based tutorials (https://wbt.psu.edu) Both the Learning Resource Center and the Computer Center rely on students to provide the tutoring and the training. As a result, the tutoring and the group training depend upon the availability and knowledge of the students.
